Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 01 Feb 2021

The Centre of Excellence for advanced materials application (CEMEA) of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) invites applications for a tenured appointment in the area of biomedical microscopy imaging. The Laboratory of Confocal Microscopy and Laboratory of Transmission Electron Microscopy are integral part of the Department of Cellular Cardiology (http://confolab.sav.sk/ovsb/en/laboratories/confocal-microscopy/ ) of the Institute of Experimental Endocrinology, Biomedical Research Center of the SAS and is closely collaborating with CEMEA.

We are looking for a PostDoc candidate skilled either in laser scanning confocal microscopy or in transmission electron microscopy. The candidate for confocal microscopy setup should be experienced in live cell imaging, ideally calcium dynamics or mitochondrial metabolism, however the latter is not a requirement. Experience with other microscopy imaging methods as super-resolution, STED, FRAP/FRET techniques is of great benefit. The candidate for transmission electron microscopy should combine the knowledge of electron microscopy techniques, including sample preparation and background in cell biology or histology. In both cases, candidates skilled in cellular imaging, cell morphology background, experienced with cell culture handling or immunofluorescence techniques are highly appreciated.

The Department of Cellular Cardiology aims in long-time perspective the excitation-contraction coupling in isolated cardiac myocytes, especially the calcium dynamics as well as mitochondrial metabolism and morphology under physiological condition and pathological remodelling. Successful applicant will test potential toxicity or beneficial effects of newly developed materials to cell metabolism by life cell confocal microscopy or transmission electron microscopy.
