PhD. position at external institution for doctoral study Plant Science and biodiversity Centre Slovak Academy of Sciences  in cooperation with Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia

Supervisor. Slavomir Adamcik, Plant Science and Biodiversity Centre Slovak Academy of Sciences

Beginning: September 2022

Topic: Phylogeny of the family Clavariaceae

Fungi of the family Clavariaceae (Agaricomycotina, Basidiomycota) form clavaroid, coral-shaped or agaricoid fruiting bodies. Their trophy is unknown but they probably form an unspecified symbiosis with vascular plants, according they occurrence pattern they are grouped in group called CHEGD. They are one of dominant groups of soil fungi in grasslands of Europe. The largest genera are Clavaria, Clavulinopsis and Ramariopsis. Current phylogenetic studies recognised three well supported phylogenric lineages nested in a clavaroid lineage of morphologically defined genus Clavaria. This genus is polyphyletic and is represented by very diverse club-shaped fungi of various morphoanatomical structures. The delimitation among Clavulinopsis and Ramariopsis is still defined bysed on morphological characters and the limits between these two genera are not clear. This study has ambition to use phylogenetic study based on multiple DNA loci to reconstruct the relationships among members of the family Clavariaceae and morphologically define recognised genera and taxa on the lower ranks.
