Offer Description

Department of Cancer Biology of the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences offers a four year doctoral study on the PhD thesis: "Investigation of the mechanisms linking CAIX-related hypoxic tumor microenvironment and obesity to pancreatic cancer progression in relation to immune response".

Supervisor: Mgr. Eliška Švastová, PhD.

Annotation:

The topic is focused on:

- the influence of CAIX expression and function on molecular cross-talk in tumor stroma among tumor cells, fibroblasts, adipocytes and immune cells with respect to its role in creating acidic and pro-invasive tumor microenvironment, and to investigate the impact of CAIX-related hypoxic/acidic TME on pro-tumorigenic environment in pancreatic cancer models

- the effect of CAIX expression and its inhibition on immune cell infiltration and macrophage differentiation in 3D spheroids

- the effect of adipokines on the progression of pancreatic tumor cells in relation to hypoxia and CAIX expression

Keywords: hypoxia, CAIX, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, obesity, immune response
