Offer Description
Optimising beef production systems – economic and environmental trade-offs
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Renáta Benda Prokeinová, PhD.
Workplace: Institute of Statistics, Operations Research and Mathematics
Field of study: Economics and Management
Study programme: Business Economics and Management
Form of study: full-time/part/time
Current environmental rhetoric emphasizes the importance of finding livestock production systems that reconcile competing goals, particularly environmental impacts. Profit margins in livestock systems are small and most of the cost is animal feeding. Therefore, optimizing the diet is an important aspect of beef production systems. A promising strategy for sustainability is the integration of cattle with biofuel production, reduction of environmental impact, restoration of pastures and use of agro-industrial ethanol by-products in animal diets. These strategies can help reduce land use change, minimize biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This is an important challenge, it helps in fulfilling its commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37% (compared to the 2005 baseline). Minimizing environmental impact in these systems is a complex problem that can be solved using optimization models: linear programming, nonlinear programming, heuristics. However, a reduction in environmental impact may compromise operating profit. Such models can also be used for sensitivity analysis, i.e. j. to assess the impact of changes in variables and input parameters on solving, for example, by-product costs, the demand for beef. The aim of this dissertation is to fill the gaps in the optimization of cattle diet. The dissertation will deal with the problem of non-linear animal growth and show that (usually avoided) non-linearity can be effectively solved using modern techniques. The added value of the dissertation will be models that will optimize the need for feed with maximum profit, and not with the lowest cost. Predicted enteric fermentation and manure emissions will be added to the models to be factored into the formulation along with the life cycle assessment (LCA) of the feed. Topic for applicants for full time and part time study.
Optimalizácia systémov produkcie hovädzieho mäsa: prienik ekonomických a environmentálnych aspektov
Školiteľ: doc. Ing. Renáta Benda Prokeinová, PhD.
Pracovisko: Ústav štatistiky, operačného výskumu a matematiky
Študijný odbor: Ekonómia a manažment
Študijný program: Ekonomika a manažment podniku
Tieto stratégie môžu pomôcť znížiť zmeny vo využívaní pôdy, minimalizovať stratu biodiverzity a emisie skleníkových plynov (GHG). Ide o dôležitú výzvu pomáha pri plnení jej záväzkov predstavených znížiť emisie skleníkových plynov o 37 % (v porovnaní so základnou hodnotou z roku 2005).
