Land in decision-making processes as market commodity versus social value

The main objective of dissertation thesis is to construct and test a telecoupling framework to analyse land-use strategies by synthesising quantitative and qualitative evidence and integrated assessment modelling. This interdisciplinary research strategy will enable a better understanding of the complexity of land-use change. It will also enable to identify land-use strategies best contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation and biodiversity protection. Partial objectives are following: (i) to conceptualise various dimensions and aspects of land-use strategies, emphasising use- and user-centred approaches to develop an assessment model for the integration and balance of their economic, social and ecological benefits and impact; (ii) to test and compare the conceptual framework on the selected case studies by choosing traditional and innovative “behavioural” land-use models which will reflect land as a market commodity versus social value. Topic for applicants for full time study. Dissertation will be processed in Slovak language or in English language.

Hlavným cieľom dizertačnej práce je vytvoriť a otestovať telecouplingový rámec pre analýzu stratégií využívania pôdy syntetizáciou kvantitatívnych a kvalitatívnych údajov a integrovaného modelovania. Táto interdisciplinárna výskumná stratégia umožní komplexnejšie pochopiť zložitosť zmien vo využívaní pôdy. Umožní tiež identifikovať stratégie využívania pôdy, ktoré najlepšie prispievajú k zmierneniu zmeny klímy a adaptácii na ňu a ochrane biodiverzity. Čiastkové ciele práce sú nasledovné: (i) konceptualizovať rôzne dimenzie a aspekty stratégií využívania pôdy s dôrazom na tzv. use- and user-centred prístup s cieľom vypracovať hodnotiaci model, ktorý rovnocenne integruje ekonomické, sociálne a ekologické prínosy a vplyvy; (ii) otestovať a porovnať konceptuálny rámec na vybraných prípadových štúdiách zohľadňujúcich tradičné a inovatívne „behaviorálne“ modely využívania pôdy, ktoré reflektujú pôdu ako trhovú komoditu verzus sociálnu hodnotu. Téma pre uchádzačov o dennú formu štúdia. Dizertačná práca sa bude spracovávať v slovenskom jazyku alebo v anglickom jazyku.
