Tan Seow Chiap (TSC) – POWERS Scholarship

POWERS Scholarship supports women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by encouraging female students at the point of admission into university to pursue a career in STEM.


Eligibility

  • The grant is open to all nationalities.
  • Successful awardees should have secured admission to a full-time undergraduate degree program either in NTU’s  College of Engineering , College of Science  or College of Computing and Data Science .
  • Has achieved good academic results with outstanding attitude, aptitude, and character.
  • Having a strong track record in STEM-related extracurricular activities (CCAs) and displaying a high level of social awareness.
  • Strong recommendation from school teachers.

Benefits Of Award

TSC Scholars will receive a one-time living allowance of up to $10,000 for their first year at NTU and will have the following student-leadership development opportunities:

  • Mentorship (career, CAO resume building/interview coaching)
  • Coaching (HIT Podcast, SWE@NTU newsletters)
  • Community (NTU WoW, NTUSU, Scholar community building with annual dinner with the donor)

 


Terms & Conditions

  • Successful awardees are expected to fulfil the role of student ambassador, or any comparable position, representing NTU and POWERS. This may constitute organising research and networking events, engaging with corporate and community partners and other related opportunities.
  • The scholarship may be withdrawn if the scholarship holder withdraws their candidature.

Application Procedures

  • The same application period as for NTU undergraduate admissions applies.
  • Applicants are required to submit their application for admission before submitting their application for the scholarship.
  • Applicants may submit their proposals using this form .

Selection Interview

The recipients of the scholarship are chosen through a rigorous selection process that evaluates both merit and aspirations, specifically:

  • Clarity of statement of purpose: This will be assessed on a 3-point scale, with 3 being the highest score. This evaluation looks for clear and well-articulated thoughts, demonstrating the applicant's ability to effectively express themselves.
  • Recommendation letter from a school/CCA teacher: A school/CCA teacher provides an appraisal of the applicant, which is also evaluated on a 3-point scale, with 3 being the highest. This assessment helps gauge the applicant's academic performance, character, and potential for growth.
