Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS)

1. MOE has introduced the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS), which will replace the following scholarships previously available to students of an Independent School (IS).

  • Edusave Entrance Scholarships for Independent Schools (EESIS)
  • Edusave Scholarships for Integrated Programme Schools (ESIP)
  • Edusave (Independent Schools) Yearly Award [E(IS)YA]

Please refer to the following for more information of the ESIS given out at the various insertion points:


ESIS (Secondary 1)
2. Eligibility

2.1 The ESIS are awarded to Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of Secondary 1 students admitted to all IS, based on PSLE results (before bonus points).

2.2 It is also awarded to Primary 6 Gifted Education Programme (GEP) Singaporean students who meet the P6 GEP promotion criteria and are enrolled in the Integrated Programme (IP) of an IS at S1.


3. Award quantum

3.1 The ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees charged by the IS less the annual amount of school and standard miscellaneous fees paid by students in government/ government-aided schools, whichever is lower.

3.2 For students awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of the Independent School Bursary (ISB), the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less the school fee subsidy provided under ISB, whichever is lower.

3.3 For students in School of the Arts (SOTA) and Singapore Sports School (SSP) who are awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of their schools’ scholarships and financial assistance schemes, the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less any school fee subsidy provided under SOTA/SSP’s scholarships and financial assistance schemes, whichever is lower.


4. Tenure

4.1 The tenure of the scholarship is 6 years for students on the 6-year programme and 4 years for students on the O-Level track. The scholar must progress to the next level of study each year and have good conduct in order to continue receiving the scholarship.


5. Application and Award Process

5.1 Upon the release of the PSLE results, students eligible for the ESIS will be informed. No application is required. Eligible students will be offered the ESIS if they are admitted to an IS and met the eligibility criteria stated in Para 2.

5.2 Upon the release of the school posting results in December, students can check whether they have been offered the ESIS via the Sec 1 Internet System (S1-IS).

5.3 Students who are admitted to IS under the Direct School Admission Exercise will also be offered the ESIS if they meet the eligibility criteria stated in Para 2.


ESIS (Secondary 3)
6. Eligibility

6.1 The ESIS are awarded to Singaporean students at Secondary 3 if they are studying in an IS, have performed well in the ESIS Test and are not awarded a 4-year or 6-year ESIS at Secondary 1.


7. Award quantum

7.1 The ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees charged by the IS less the annual amount of school and standard miscellaneous fees paid by students in government/ government-aided schools, whichever is lower.

7.2 For students awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of the Independent School Bursary (ISB), the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less the school fee subsidy provided under ISB, whichever is lower.

7.3 For students in School of the Arts (SOTA) and Singapore Sports School (SSP) who are awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of their schools’ scholarships and financial assistance schemes, the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less any school fee subsidy provided under SOTA/SSP’s scholarships and financial assistance schemes, whichever is lower.

9. Application and Award Process

9.1 Nominated/Shortlisted students will be invited by the school to apply for the ESIS Test at the end of their Secondary 2 studies, in order to determine their suitability for the ESIS.


ESIS (Pre-University 1)
10. Eligibility

10.1 The ESIS are awarded to Singaporean students who are admitted into an IS at Pre-University 1, not awarded a 6-year ESIS at Secondary 1 and 4-year ESIS at Secondary 3 and fulfill the following:

For students on the 6-year programme

  • Have not sat for the GCE O-Level Examinations;
  • Have not sat for the ESIS Test at Secondary 3; and
  • Perform well in the ESIS Test at Pre-University 1.

For students on the O-Level track

  • Within the top 5% of all students who sat for the GCE O-Level Examinations (Based on L1R5 scores before any bonus points)

11. Award quantum

11.1 The ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees charged by the IS less the annual amount of school and standard miscellaneous fees paid by students in government/ government-aided schools, whichever is lower.

11.2 For students awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of the Independent School Bursary (ISB), the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less the school fee subsidy provided under ISB, whichever is lower.

11.3 For students in School of the Arts (SOTA) and Singapore Sports School (SSP) who are awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of their schools’ scholarships and financial assistance schemes, the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less any school fee subsidy provided under SOTA/SSP’s scholarships and financial assistance schemes, whichever is lower.


12. Tenure

12.1 The tenure of the scholarship is 2 years. The scholar must progress to the next level of study each year and have good conduct in order to continue receiving the scholarship.


13. Application and Award Process

13.1 Nominated/Shortlisted students who are on the 6-year programme will be invited by the school to apply for the ESIS Test at the end of their Secondary 4 studies, in order to determine their suitability for the scholarship.

13.2 Students on the O-Level track will be informed of their eligibility for ESIS during the release of the O-Level examination results. No application is required. Eligible students will be offered the ESIS if they are admitted to an IS and meet the eligibility criteria stated in Para 10.

13.3 O-Level students who are admitted to an IS under the Direct School Admission Exercise for Junior College (DSA-JC) will also be offered the ESIS if they met the eligibility criteria stated in Para 10.


ESIS (Yearly Award)
14. Eligibility

14.1 The ESIS (Yearly Award) are awarded to Singaporean students in IS who are not awarded any other type of ESIS. These are given to the top 10% of each cohort by level in each IS based on their school examination results for the year. These awards are to encourage and reward students who have excelled academically as well as obtained a good grade for conduct in that year.

15.1 The ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees charged by the IS less the annual amount of school and standard miscellaneous fees paid by students in government/ government-aided schools, whichever is lower.

15.2 For students awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of the Independent School Bursary (ISB), the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less the school fee subsidy provided under ISB, whichever is lower.

15.3 For students in School of the Arts (SOTA) and Singapore Sports School (SSP) who are awarded ESIS, and are also recipients of their schools’ scholarships and financial assistance schemes, the ESIS award quantum is $2,400 per year, or the annual school fees less any school fee subsidy provided under SOTA/SSP’s scholarships and financial assistance schemes, whichever is lower.


16. Application and Award Process

16.1 All students in IS are considered for the ESIS (Yearly Award). No application is required. Students awarded the ESIS will be informed through their schools by the beginning of the next academic year.
