Edusave awards and scholarships

Overview

These are the awards and scholarships that Singapore Citizen students could be eligible for:

• Edusave academic awards. Your child is only eligible for 1 Edusave academic award, that is, Edusave Scholarship, Merit Bursary or Good Progress Award.
• EAGLES Award
• Edusave Character Award
• Edusave Skills Award. This is only applicable for students from specialised schools, ITE or Polytechnics.

If your child receives the Merit Bursary after being awarded the Good Progress Award, they will receive a top-up of award monies to match the amount for the Merit Bursary.

Primary school
Edusave Character Award

Up to 2% of students in each school who demonstrated exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions.

Award amount:

• Primary 1 to 3: $200
• Primary 4 to 6: $350

Edusave scholarships for government, government-aided and specialised schools

Students who are within the top 10% of their school’s level and course in terms of academic performance, and have demonstrated good conduct.

Award amount:

• Primary 5 to 6: $350

Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES)

Up to 10% of students from each school who have demonstrated leadership qualities, service to community and schools, excellence in non-academic activities, and good conduct.

Award amount:

• Primary 4 to 6: $250

Edusave Merit Bursary (EMB)
Primary 1 and 2

Students who consistently demonstrated positive learning dispositions in the course of the year, have demonstrated good conduct and whose monthly household income does not exceed $7,500 (or per capita income does not exceed $1,875).

Other levels

Students who are within the top 25% of their school’s level and course in terms of academic performance, have demonstrated good conduct and whose monthly household income does not exceed $7,500 (or per capita income does not exceed $1,875). Students must not be recipients of an Edusave scholarship.

Award amount:

• Primary 1 to 3: $200
• Primary 4 to 6: $250

For primary schools, the revised income eligibility criteria for the EMB , will apply for applications received from November 2023. 
Edusave Good Progress Award (GPA)
Primary 2 (from 2019 onwards) and Primary 3 (from 2020 onwards)

Students who do not qualify for Edusave Merit Bursary, but showed the greatest improvement in learning disposition in the course of the year and have demonstrated good conduct.

Other levels

Students who are within the top 10% of their school’s level and course in terms of improvement in academic performance and have demonstrated good conduct.

Award amount:

• Primary 2 to 3: $100
• Primary 4 to 6: $150

Secondary and specialised schools
Edusave Character Award

Up to 2% of students in each school who have demonstrated exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions.

Award amount:

• Secondary or specialised school: $500

Edusave Skills Award

Up to 10% of students from each course in the graduating cohort who have demonstrated excellent professional and soft skills throughout their course of study, and good conduct.

Award amount:

• Specialised school: $500

Edusave scholarships for government, government-aided and specialised schools

Students who are within the top 10% of their school’s level and course in terms of academic performance, and have demonstrated good conduct.

Award amount:

• Secondary or specialised school: $500

Post-secondary school
Edusave Character Award

• Pre-university or ITE: $500

For junior colleges and Millennia Institute, the revised income eligibility criteria for the EMB , will apply for applications received from November 2023. As for the Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics, it will apply for applications received from February 2023.
Edusave Good Progress Award (GPA)

Students who are within the top 10% of their school’s level and course in terms of improvement in academic performance and have demonstrated good conduct.

Note: Junior college and Millennia Institute students who are recipients of any Edusave scholarships or the Edusave Merit Bursary are not eligible for the GPA.

Award amount:

• Pre-university: $250
• ITE or polytechnic: $400

Special education schools
Edusave Achievement Award

Students in special education schools who meet the school-based criteria for the award.

The award amount varies across schools.

Your child will receive the award monies via cheque or direct credit to your bank account. The award ceremony will also be conducted by the school and not your Community Centre (CC) or Constituency Office (CO). Check with the school for more details.
Award notification

If your child is eligible, you will receive a notification letter from MOE in:

• Primary schools, secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute: by Tuesday, 20 December 2022.
• ITE (Nitec): around end-February.
• Polytechnics and ITE (Higher Nitec): around end-August.

Your Constituency Office (CO) will notify you of the certificate presentation ceremony separately.

How your child will receive the award monies

Your child will receive the award monies via PayNow.

To ensure that your child can receive the award monies promptly, you must register your child for PayNow (NRIC) before the day of the presentation ceremony. If not, the award monies will be paid to your child later via direct crediting to your child's bank account.

Dates to note

If successfully registered for PayNow, your child will receive the award monies via PayNow between 3 January and 23 March, after attending the Edusave award ceremony organised by the Community Centre (CC) or Constituency Office (CO). If you require assistance during this period, you can contact the CC or CO stated in your invitation letter.

If your child has not received the award monies via PayNow by 24 March, you will receive a notification letter from MOE by end-May, informing to submit your child's bank details via FormSG for direct crediting. Contact us if you have not received the notification letter for direct crediting by then.

If you did not attend the ceremony or there was no ceremony, please check with your Community Centre or Constituency Office on the certificate collection and payment details.
How to set up PayNow
1. Have a bank account ready for your child

Your child must have a bank account with 1 of these participating banks. The account can be under your child’s name or your child’s joint account with you.

• Bank of China (BOC) (Only for children above 15 years old.)
• United Overseas Bank (UOB)
• Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) (Only for children above 15 years old.)

2. Register for PayNow using your child's NRIC or Birth Certificate

The award monies will not be credited if you register using your mobile number or NRIC number. Refer to the infosheet (93KB) or the Association of Banks in Singapore website for more information.

Linking PayNow to Child Development Account

If you link your child’s Child Development Account (CDA) for PayNow, you will not be able to withdraw the award monies in cash and can only use it to offset your child’s educational and healthcare expenses at approved institutions.

The CDA will be closed at the end of the year your child turns 12 years old. Thereafter, funds in the CDA will be automatically transferred to your child’s Post-Secondary Education Account, subject to a cap.
