Scholarship for PhD graduate- 1 vacancy

6 of June of 2022

A call for tenders is open for one Scholarship Research for PhD Graduate within the scope of the project “MOSTMEG - Predictive models for strategic metal rich, granite-related ore systems based on mineral and geochemical fingerprints and footprints, reference ERA-MIN/0004/2019, financed by European funds through FCT/MCTES, under the following conditions:

Scientific area: Geology and Earth Sciences or related areas

Admission requirements:

    • Hold a PhD in the areas of Geology, Earth Sciences or related areas;
    • Academic and professional training in the area of application of analytical methodologies to natural geological materials or processed analogous materials.
    • Experience and autonomy in analytical methodologies, namely XRD, SEM-EDS, ICP-MS, RAMAN and XRF to natural or processed geological materials.
    • Experience and autonomy in LA-ICP-MS, in obtaining and processing data, using MS/MS equipment;
    • Minimum of 3 publications in journals indexed in SCOPUS in the last 3 years.

Regarding the “BIPD” (Postdoctoral Scholarship), in terms of the requirements to be verified for their attribution (article 7 of the FCT Research Grant Regulation no. 950/2019) the need for a doctoral degree to have been obtained in the 3 years prior to the date of submission of the application to the scholarship and, in terms of its execution, the fact that it can only be renewed for a maximum period of 3 years

Work plan:

The Postdoctoral fellow should focus on the characterization of potentially useful mineral phases in mineralizations associated with aplite-pegmatitic systems.

It is assumed the acquisition and processing of data from the analysis techniques, namely:

  • Identification of mineral phases and possible inclusions, by micro-XRD, micro-FTIR and micro-Raman;
  • Determination of heterogeneities and mineral chemistry of major elements by SEM-EDS, EPMA and cathodoluminescence;
  • Determination of chemical composition in trace elements by LA-ICP-MS/MS
  • The Postdoctoral fellow must contribute to the discussion of data and project success, with the whole team. In particular, in the quantification of trace elements that can help to identify genetic processes and define new tools for prospecting critical raw material deposits, associated with paragenetic sequences in swarms of (aplite-) pegmatites.

    Postdoctoral fellow collaboration in dissemination activities and advanced training is also expected.

    Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, as set in the template https://www.fct.pt/apoios/Minuta_Contrato_Bolsa.docx , pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt and other applicable rules.
