Scholarship for Master – 1 position

A call for tenders is open for one Scholarship for master within the scope of the project “SALMONLINK - Contribuição dos cientistas e pescadores para a conservação e gestão participada das populações de salmão do Atlântico em Portugal”, MAR-01.03.02-FEAMP-0048, co-financed by the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (FEAMP), within the framework of the Operational Program Mar 2020, under the following conditions:

Scientific area: Aquatic Ecology

Admission requirements: Degree in Biology or related fields, and Master in Marine Ecology, or related fields. Experience in aquatic ecology, experience in identifying freshwater and diadromous fish fauna, experience in sampling fish fauna in freshwater environments using electric fishing. Experience in fish passage monitoring. Experience in the use of acoustic biotelemetry techniques to monitor fish species behaviour. Experience on conducting surveys to fishermen. Preference to applicants with a light vehicle driving license (Category B). The candidate must be fluent in English and Portuguese, written and spoken.

As set forth FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for “BI” (Research Grants) must comply as a rule condition for the award of the scholarship, the effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the attribution of academic degrees or in courses not leading to an academic degree. Courses that do not confer an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006 of 24 March and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, including a course plan in one or several research areas of the unit.

Work plan: Sampling of fish fauna in freshwater environments using electric fishing, monitoring fish species migration and behaviour through acoustic telemetry, surveys to local professional fishermen and anglers, support for data processing obtained in the project and the realization of the respective reports, preparation of scientific articles for publication.

Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, as set in the template https://www.fct.pt/apoios/Minuta_Contrato_Bolsa.docx , pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt and other applicable rules.

Place of work: The work will be carried out at the University of Évora and at MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences (FCUL campus, Lisbon), also involving fieldwork distributed by the main national hydrographic basins, under the scientific guidance of Professor Pedro Raposo de Almeida and Dr. Carlos Manuel Alexandre.

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in January 2022. The scholarship contract may be renewed up to the end of the project.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1104,64 according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (http://fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum evaluation with a 30% valuation and relevant previous experience with a 70% valuation. If considered necessary, the jury will carry out an interview with a maximum of 5 candidates that the jury, after analyzing the first components, deems to have the most appropriate profile for the nature of the tasks to be performed.

Composition of the Selection Jury: President – ​​Professor Pedro Raposo de Almeida, 1st Member – Doctor Carlos Manuel Engeitado Alexandre, 2nd Member - Doctor Catarina Sofia Pereira Mateus, 1st Substitute – Doctor Sílvia Susana Ferreira Pedro and 2nd Substitute – Doctor Joana Sousa e Silva Boavida-Portugal.

Advertising/notification of results: The final results will be publicized, through an ordered list with the classification of candidates, posted in a visible and public place of the Department of Biology of the School of Science and Technology of the University of Évora, and with the notification by email to the approved candidate.

To ensure the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.

After communicating the provisional list of the results of the evaluation, candidates have a period of 10 working days to express their opinion in a preliminary hearing of interested parties.

Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open from November 25th to December 10th of 2021 and the results of the selection will be published by December 13th of 2021 .

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, proof of enrollment in a cycle of studies leading to the attribution of academic degrees or non-degree course, or, alternatively, a declaration of honor that will be presented, in the contracting phase, a proof of enrollment, if selected for the scholarship here announced.

For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
