RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE – 1 VACANCY

A public tender is open for the award of 1 (one) research grant to 1 (one) Research Fellow for a Bachelor’s Degree Holder enrolled in a History Master – Contemporary chronological area , for 6 months, within the scope of the History of Science project. Science and Technology and Environment - from IHC – U.E., Ref. UIDB/04209/2020, Funded by the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT)/MCTES - OE, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: History; History of Science and Technology

Admission requirements:

• Have higher education in the field of History

• Fluent written and spoken knowledge of English

• Ability to integrate into an interdisciplinary work group, with intervention in seminars and scientific debate groups

• Preferred factor to attend the Master's Program in History, with thesis work on the chronological framework of Contemporary History

According to the FCT Research Grants Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for BI (Research Grants) must comply as a condition for the award of the grant, the effective insertion in study cycles leading to the award of academic degrees or in courses that do not award an academic degree. Courses that do not lead to an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in paragraph e) of no. 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006 of March 24 and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, including the course plan in one or more research areas of the unit.

Work plan, to be developed in the IHC HCTA Research Group – U.E.  Pole, with following goals:

 

Have knowledge of research in the History of Science and Technology – networks, production and national and international circulation of knowledge.

• Innovative research, in the context of a Master's thesis History, with research connected to Contemporary History – History of Science and Technology – agenda of circulation and exchange of knowledge, in a transnational context of the 19th century, modeling the history of science and technology and accomplishment in the territory

 • Required outputs:

a) Organization of an internal HCTA research seminar – around the theme of the Master’s thesis

b) Submission of a communication to a Scientific Congress with peer review, together with a supervisor

c) Preparation for submission of an article in an international journal indexed in Scopus, together with a supervisor

Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, according to the version in Annex I, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the IHC Pole of the U.E., Palácio do Vimioso, under the scientific guidance of FCT –CEEC  Researcher – PhD  Quintino Lopes .

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will last 6 months, starting in June 2024.

Value of the monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €990.98, according to the table of scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ), with payments made monthly, via check or bank transfer.

Selection methods:

The selection methods to be used will be the following:

Curricular evaluation – (70%)

a) Academic Training (30%);

b) Academic curriculum (45%);

c) Letter of Motivation addressed to the President of the Jury accompanied by elements demonstrating other scientific, pedagogical and extra-curricular activities considered relevant (25%)

Mandatory interview – 30%

Demonstration of ability to execute the objectives of the work plan; dynamism for the HCTA Research Group.

Composition of the Selection Jury:

Method of publishing/notifying results: The final results of the assessment will be published, through a list ordered by final grade obtained, posted in a visible and public place at the Palácio do Vimioso of the University of Évora, with the successful candidate being notified by e-mail.

Under the terms of the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.

After communicating the provisional list of evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, make their comments at a prior hearing of interested parties.

Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The competition is open from 3rd April to 17th April, 2024 and the selection results will be published by 6th of May of 2024.

Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application and a letter of motivation accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, a letter of reference or recommendation and other supporting documents considered relevant. For application purposes, proof documentation may be replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, but failure to demonstrate, during the contracting phase, possession of the degree required by the application deadline or failure to present proof of enrollment or enrollment in a study cycle or course that does not award a degree, for scholarships with this component, the candidate's evaluation will be cancelled.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law nº. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25th. Presentation of the certificate is mandatory for signing the contract.
