MASTER'S RESEARCH GRANT (BI) – 1 VACANCY

TRANSMAT PROJECT

A call for tenders is open for 1 Scholarship for a master holder, within the scope of the project TRANSMAT - Transnational materialities (1850-1930): reconstituting collections and connecting histories (PTDC/FER-HFC/2793/2020), financed by national funds through FCT, under the following conditions:

Admission requirements:

Master's degree in History or Social Sciences with research experience in museology, history of museums and history of non-European collections. 

As set forth FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for “BI” (Research Grants) must comply as a rule condition for the award of the scholarship, the effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the attribution of academic degrees or in courses not leading to an academic degree. Courses that do not confer an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006 of 24 March and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, including a course plan in one or several research areas of the unit.

Work plan: The candidate will be part of the project team ‘TRANSMAT - Transnational Materialities (1830-1930): documenting collections and connecting histories’, coordinated by the IHC - University of Évora Centre. His/Her work will focus on the collections of the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum, more specifically on the historical analysis of transnational objects and collections. The work will be coordinated and guided by the Principal Investigator (PI), through regular meetings with a view to carrying out the following tasks:

1.           Systematising the information gathered as part of the TRANSMAT project;

2.           Producing digital media for content promotion;

3.           Production of an international scientific article;

4.           Participation in dissemination actions (exhibitions and international congress);

 

Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, according to the version in Annex I, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.

Place of work: The work will be developed at Instituto de História Contemporânea of the University of Évora, under the under the general coordination of the Administrator of the University of Évora and the scientific guidance of the Professor/PhD, Elisabete Pereira, who must draw up an opinion on the final activity report of the scholarship (Annex II), according to the draft in Annex III.

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 7 months, starting on September of 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed up to until the end of the funding project's budget allocation (PTDC/FER-HFC/2793/2020).

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € €1.259,64, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection method to be used is curriculum evaluation (CE = 70%) and motivation letter (ML = 30%). If necessary, the selection board reserves the right to call up to three candidates for an interview (E). In this case, for the candidates who go through to the interview stage, the first assessment component (CE = 50 per cent + ML = 20 per cent) will weigh 70 per cent and the interview will weigh 30 per cent. The jury may not award the grant if no candidate is found with the profile considered suitable.

The Curricular Assessment (CA) of the candidates will assess their aptitudes, weighting them according to the requirements of the work plan, their final master's degree classification and their Experience, and will be carried out in accordance with the parameters defined in the Jury's minutes and taking into account the competences expressed by the candidate in the Curriculum Vitae in the following areas:

Research experience in the history of collections;

Experience in producing digital media to promote content;

Experience of teamwork in multidisciplinary projects;

The assessment of the Motivation Letter will objectively and systematically analyse the candidate's motivation, the relevance of the grant to his/her personal project, the suitability of the candidate's profile to the defined work plan, and written expression and fluency.

In the interview (I), if it is held, the knowledge and technical skills and behavioural aspects shown during the interaction between the interviewer and the interviewee will be assessed objectively and systematically, namely those related to communication and interpersonal skills, analysis of information and critical thinking, initiative and autonomy, planning and organisational skills; ability to integrate and collaborate in work teams.

1st Alternate - Ana Cristina Martins, contract researcher / IHC - U.E. centre

2nd Alternate – Sara Albuquerque, integrated researcher at IHC-polo U.E. 

Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the assessment will be publicised by means of a list ordered alphabetically by the final mark obtained or other posted in a visible and public place at the University of Évora (Palácio do Vimioso), and the successful candidate will be notified by email.

Under the terms of the right to a prior hearing of interested parties, the draft Final Classification will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.

Once the provisional list of assessment results has been communicated, candidates have a period of 10 working days in which to make their views known at the prior hearing of interested parties.

Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open from 7th of May to 7th of June of 2024 and the results of the selection will be published by 28th of June of 2024.

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, letters of reference or recommendation and other supporting documents deemed relevant.

For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
