SCHOLARSHIP FOR A BACHELOR’S DEGREE - 1 VACANCY

A call for tenders is open for 1 Scholarship for a Bachelor’s Degree within the scope of the CARDIMED - Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated In the MEDiterranean region reference 101112731, CCA:931565, financed by the Horizon Europe programme, call HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01-06, under the following conditions

Scientific area: Biology

Admission requirements: The candidate will only be admitted if he/she meets all of the following requirements:

  • Be qualified with a degree in Biology;
  • Have knowledge of Portuguese flora and phytosociology, as well as experience in inventory and field floristic monitoring;
  • Have knowledge of habitats of community interest (nomenclature domain), including proven experience in habitat mapping;
  • Have knowledge in spatial analysis and geographic information systems;
  • Have knowledge and experience in multiplying native species and their application in restoration actions;
  • Declare to have agility and physical robustness for field work;
  • Declare that inhabit (or willing to) in Évora region;
  • Declare that are available to do field work for several days in the areas of the SAC’s Comporta Galé, Costa Vicentina and Castro Marim;
  • Submission of a Curriculum vitae (which contains all the information necessary to carry out the admission and selection of the candidate) and respective academic/training certificates, all compiled in a single document (pdf).
  • Portuguese as a native language.
  • Be able to mediate and facilitate processes.
  • As set forth FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for “BI” (Research Grants) must comply as a rule condition for the award of the scholarship, the effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the attribution of academic degrees or in courses not leading to an academic degree. Courses that do not confer an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006 of 24 March and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, including a course plan in one or several research areas of the unit.

     

    Work plan:

    The work plan is part of the CARDIMED Project and includes:

    - Field survey for monitoring the flora and vegetation in the Project's intervention areas;

    - Mapping of habitats in the Project's areas;

    - Mapping of invasive exotic species;

    - Support in the execution of reports.

    This plan encompasses the following project tasks:

    WP6 - Characterization and monitoring of Demo 7 intervention areas.

    Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, according to the version in Annex I, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.

    Place of work: The work will be developed at the Department of Landscape, Environment and Planning (School of Science and Technology - University of Évora) and in the Project intervention areas (SAC Comporta Galé, Costa Vicentina and Castro Marim), under the scientific guidance of Professor Catarina Meireles, who must draw up an opinion on the final activity report of the scholarship (Annex II), according to the draft in Annex III.

    Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 12 months, starting on April 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed until the end of CARDIMED - Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated in the MEDiterranean region.

    Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €990.98, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.

    Selection methods: The selection will be made based on the Curriculum vitae, with weighted valuation, giving preference to candidates who have proven experience in plant inventory and monitoring work, as well as habitat mapping. The assessment will be based on a scoring system between 4 and 1 points (4= Excellent; 3= Good; 2= Fair; 1= Questionable), attributed to requirements 2) to 5) (admission requirements mentioned above). The final result being the sum of the values assigned to the requirements. There may be a face-to-face interview if considered necessary, particularly for tiebreaker. In which case the following relationship will be used: AF = 0.60CV + 0.40Interview.

    Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published, through a list ordered by final grade obtained, posted in a visible and public place in the Department of Landscape, Environment and Planning (School of Science and Technology -  University of Évora), with the approved candidate being notified through e-mail.

    Under the terms of the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties. After communicating the provisional list of evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, make their comments at a prior hearing of interested parties.

    Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open from 15th to 29th of March of 2024 and the results of the selection will be published by 5 of April of 2024 .

    Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, motivation letter with a declaration of compliance with all the admission criteria indicated in the notice and other supporting documents considered relevant.

    For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.

    Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
