The Institute of Mechanical Engineering – IDMEC is opening a call for

 Research Studentship (PhD Student)

 

Applications are open for 1 (one) Research Studentship for PhD Student, within the framework of ATE project, reference C644914717-00000023, funded through the PRR Incentive, NextGenerationEU, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Control, Automation and Industrial Informatics and related areas

Admission Requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or declaration of honor in which undertakes to be enrolled until the grant's contract is done.

 

(b) Training in the areas of modeling, simulation, and control of systems, being a preferential requirement that it is applied to the area of uncrewed systems.

 

(c) Knowledge and experience of hardware and software development in embedded systems.

 

Workplan and the objectives to achieve: It is intended that the selected scholarship holder carries out scientific research work in the area of Systems, specifically in the area of Mechanics or related areas, more specifically: i) study and development of ground platforms to obtain vehicles with different levels of autonomy and dual use application in infrastructure inspection; ii) development of robust solutions that ensure the execution of the missions defined for the developed platform; iii) implementation and validation, in simulation and experimentally, of the developed solutions; iv) publication in international conference and/or journal of the results achieved.

Workplace: The work will be developed at IDMEC - Institute of Mechanical Engineering, being both the Host and Contracting Entity, and under the scientific supervision of Prof. Alexandra Moutinho.

Duration: The research fellowship will have a duration of 12 months. It is expected to begin in May 2024, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum stated by the law or the end of the project.

Obtaining an academic degree during the term of the contract is not a reason for changing the contractual conditions.

Monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is 1259,64€ being the payment method by Wire Transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be as follows: curricular evaluation with a framework of the admission requirements, motivation letter and interview, the latter only if it is considered necessary. In the case of a in-person interview, its valuation will be 40%. The remaining criteria will have equal evaluations, 50% each without an interview, or 30% each with an interview.

Composition of the selection Jury: President: Profª Virgínia Infante, Effective members: Profª Alexandra Moutinho e Prof. José Raul Azinheira, Substitute members: Prof. António Andrade e Prof. João Reis.

Selection minutes: Brief minutes of the jury meetings will be drawn up, indicating the names and affiliation of the jury members, the names of the excluded and admitted candidates, the criteria and respective assessment by candidate, ranking of candidates, and all decisions must have clear and sufficient grounds. The minutes must be accompanied by declarations of conflict of interest (CDI) of all members of the jury.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will communicated to all applicants by email.

After be notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal, by email.

Application deadline and formalization: The call is open in the period between 19th March 2024 and 03rd April 2024, until 18:00.
