2 Research Scholarships (M/F)

A tender is now open for the attribution of two Research Grants within the scope of the project “Sono ao Volante 2.0 - Information system for predicting sleeping while driving and detecting disorders or chronic sleep deprivation”, with reference NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-039720, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the North Regional Operational Program-NORTH2020, under the following conditions:

Scientific area: Computer Science/Informatics Engineering/ Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering/ Bioengineering/ Biomedical Engineering

Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements can apply for this competition:

Requirement 1:

- Be a student enrolled in a doctoral program in the area of Computer Science/Informatics Engineering, Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or related area a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

or

- To be enrolled in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

Note: In the case of masters who are enrolled in non-academic degree courses, the scholarship can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with this scholarship contract, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in that typology of the scholarship, followed or interpolated.

Requirement 2:

- Hold a Master's degree inComputer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or related area.

If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time of hiring.

Work plan: The work is part of the objectives of the project "Sono ao Volante 2.0 - Information system for predicting sleeping while driving and detecting disorders or chronic sleep deprivation" and is related to the collection and analysis of information, requirements specification, component selection, equipment and tools for future use within the project and specification of the wearables system and other equipment for data collection in the project. The scholarship holders will also be involved in the development of the base framework, collection components and system availability and alert components. They will also be involved in the construction of machine learning models for detecting pathology and assessing sleep quality and developing algorithms for classifying individuals regarding the circadian rhythm. The scholarship holders will also contribute to the testing of all components and the final evaluation of the system. They will also contribute to the Technical-Scientific Dissemination of the project's results.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Laboratory at DEI/FEUP – Department of Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, under the scientific guidance of Professor Luís Paulo Reis and other member of the project/researcher at FEUP/LIACC.

Grant Duration: Initial duration of 6 months, with the predicted starting date in February 2022, on an exclusive basis, eventually renewable, but not exceeding the project's conclusion date.

The eventual renewal og the grant will be carried out as determined in article 6 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Stipend: The monthly amount of the grant varies between 1,104.64 €, according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, and https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores and 1.504,64 €, depending on the profile and previous experience of the candidate in the project area.

Payment will be made via bank transfer.

Selection Procedure:

Curriculum Evaluation, which will focus on the candidate's merits, in which the following factors will be considered, with the indicated weights, and in which all criteria will be evaluated by the jury on a scale of 0-10:

F1: Academic training - 40%

F1a) Master's Degree Area or Master's Thesis theme - 50% (Master's degree/Thesis theme in Informatics Engineering, Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering – 10 points, Master's degree/Thesis theme in related field – 5 points)

F1b) Final MSc Degree average grade (Masters or Integrated Masters) - 50%

F2: Scientific Publications in Indexed Journals and Conferences - 20%

F3: Previous experience in research work - 20%

F3a) Relevant experience according to preferential admission requirements - 70%

F3b) Other experience in research projects - 30%

F4: Motivation Letter - 20%

The candidate's final classification will be obtained by the formula CF = 0.4*F1 + 0.2*F2 + 0.2*F3 + 0.2*F4, where: F1 = 0.5*F1a + 0.5*F1b ; F3= 0.7*F3a + 0.3*F3b
