Offer Description

Work Plan:

The work plan focuses on analyzing data from patients undergoing epilepsy surgeries at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), Netherlands, following these steps: - Data Preparation and Processing: Processing and cleaning clinical data using Python to ensure consistency and integrity. - Development of Generative Models: Developing generative models in Python to simulate patient data while preserving essential characteristics without compromising privacy. - Evaluation of Synthetic Data: Analyzing the quality of synthetic data based on its diversity, fidelity, utility, and authenticity. - Scientific Dissemination: Participation in writing and presenting scientific papers, sharing the results on relevant platforms and at conferences.

Workplace:

The work will be carried out at the Biosignals laboratory of LIBPhys, in the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under the scientific guidance of Professor/Doctor Hugo Gamboa. The contracting entity will be NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.

Fellowship duration:

The scholarship will last for 6 months, with an expected start in July 2024.

Mandatory requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, currently pursuing a master's degree program in Biomedical Engineering. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's program with a strong biomedical research component. For degree holders from foreign higher education institutions, it is required to provide a record of recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and a record of conversion of the final grade to the Portuguese grading scale, or alternatively, a declaration of honor stating that the candidate has obtained recognition of the foreign degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree by the end of the application deadline.

Preferred factors:

Preference will be given to candidates who, as part of their master's thesis, are developing the following skills:

a) Application of artificial intelligence techniques for discrimination of health conditions and generation of synthetic biomedical data.

b) Prior experience with projects or research related to biomedical signal processing.

c) Strong analytical ability and advanced skills in modeling and simulation software.

d) Demonstrated interest in scientific publications and participation in international conferences in the field of biomedical engineering.

e) Proficiency in English.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

The fellowship amount is €990.98, based on the value table of grants directly awarded by the FCT, I.P. in the country. Payments will be made monthly by bank transfer. Should the fellow choose, provision will be made for the payment of voluntary social insurance.


Eligibility criteria

Selection criteria:

The selection methods to be used and the respective weighting will be as follows:

a. Curricular assessment (grade from 1 to 20) weighting 50%;

b. Experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%.

The jury may resort to conducting selection interviews with the three best-ranked candidates, with classification higher than 15 values. In the event that the jury conducts interviews, the selection methods change, becoming the following:

a. Curricular assessment and experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%;

b. Interview (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%.

All applications will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20 values.

Candidates who do not obtain a minimum grade of 15, as a result of the jury's evaluation according to the selection criteria, will not be hired.

Form of advertising/notification of results:

The evaluation results proposed by the jury will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or a hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected] .
