Summary: A research position for two (2) Research Grants (“Bolsa de Investigação”) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project Safe-Home with No. 072082 (CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-072082). This project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), through the Regional Operational Programme of Lisbon (POR LISBOA 2020) and the Regional Operational Programme of Centre (CENTRO 2020) of the Portugal 2020 framework.

Work Objectives: Design, characterization and implementation of a network of optical fiber based sensors, to detect and continuously monitor the user’s activity within a defined space. The applicants will design the sensing network (type, number and layout of sensors) able to detect vertical forces distribution within a space and identify the source of structural vibrations. The applicants will also be responsible for the sensing network performance evaluation (simulation and experimental) and the definition of the sensing communication interfaces with the edge/fog node devices.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Aveiro of Dr. Maria de Fátima Domingues.
Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of renewal. Start date: December 2021 or soon thereafter.
