Research Scholarship Competition Opening Notice in the scope of an IC&DT project

Project: GreenHealth – “Estratégias digitais e baseadas em ativos biológicos para melhorar o bem estar e promover a saúde verde”
It is open, for 10 consecutive days, a competition for 1 Research Scholarship (Bolsa de Investigação, BI), in the scope of project GreenHealth – “Estratégias digitais e baseadas em ativos biológicos para melhorar o bem estar e promover a saúde verde” – Activity 8, of the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave (IPCA), financed by NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000042, aiming to bring digital technologies to the XXI century.

Admission requirements:
Applicants must be students enrolled in a Masters or PhD program, in the areas of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology sciences, and related areas. They should possess solid knowledge in organic waste valorization processes, demonstrated through technical/scientific publications.
Preferential conditions:
Preference will be given to candidates with know-how in environmental assessment, ideally Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Workplan:
The workplan focuses on Ativity 8 (Innovative Agricultural Practices and Transformation Processes) of the research project GREENHEALTH - Estratégias digitais e baseadas em ativos biológicos para melhorar o bem estar e promover a saúde verde (supporting the definition of the regional agenda for the implementation of the National Plan for Circular Economy in the Alto Minho region) and includes the following tasks:
- Monitor agroenvironmental indicators, usually associated to relevant agricultural plots for this project, such as chestnut and olive groves, using life cycle assessment (LCA).
Develop comparative studies of environmental impact associated to new processes of agrifood transformation and conservation, using life cycle assessment (LCA).
- contribute to the definition of sustainable agricultural practices, in cooperation with the project team.
Other tasks:
Conducting other tasks that fit the project activities, namely support and writing technical reports and aid in the technical transfer and dissemination of project results, in particular through their publication and presentation in scientific events or promotion of the developed project.
Applicable legislation and regulation:
Grant Holder Statute (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação – Decreto-Lei nº. 89/2013, later amended by Decreto-Lei nº. 123/2019, of August 28) of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Current statute: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro.phtml.en ) and the Research Grant Regulation of the Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (Regulamento nº. 821/2020 (Diário da República nº. 191/2020, Série II de 2020-09-30).
Work location:
The research activities will take place at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado e Ave under the scientific supervision of Professor Ricardo João Ferreira Simões.
Duration:
The scholarship is for 12 months, expected start date October 2021, renewable until the end of the project or the maximum duration allowed by applicable regulation and legislation.
Monthly stipend:
The monthly scholarship stipend is 835,98€, as per the FCT regulations (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en ) and will paid by bank transfer.
Other benefits:
Voluntary social security (SSV), corresponding to the 1st level (1º. Escalão), and personal accident insurance.
Evaluation:
Applications are evaluated based on the selection criteria below, in a scale from 0 to 20 values. If the selected applicant forfeits, the second candidate in the ordered list will be automatically called, and thus, sequentially, until the end of the applicants accepted by the jury.
Selection Method:
The following selection method will be used:
• Curricular evaluation, with a value of 70%, based on the following selection criteria:
i) Academic training, namely the classification of obtained degrees [50%];
ii) Other curricular elements that show the value of the candidate [20%];
• Practical experience, with a value of 30%, based on the following selection criteria:
iii) Participation in previous relevant projects [15%];
iv) Technical and scientific productivity in the research area [15%];
The final classification will be calculated as:
Final Classification = Curricular Evaluation + Practical Experience
The final classification will be between 0 and 5 values, in which Curricular Evaluation has a 70% weight and the Practical Experience has a 30% weight.

Evaluation results publication/notification:
Evaluation results will be posted at www.ipca.pt – results proposed by the jury, minutes and final ordered list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to express their opinion during a hearing of interested parties, pursuant to articles 121 et seq. of the Portuguese Code of Administrative Procedure.
The final decision will be made after the analysis of the statements presented during a hearing of interested parties, and candidates will be notified by email, with delivery notification, according to IPCA’s Scholarship Regulations.
Application deadline and submission procedure:
The competition is open from october 2021.

All applications should be formalized by mentioning the topic and project reference, describing the motivation and professional goals of the applicant, together with the following documents:
• Curriculum vitae;
• Motivation letter;
• Copy of all habilitation certificates, including final grades;
• Recommendation letters (optional and a maximum of two);
• Statement that the candidate is not simultaneously already receiving another scholarship, or if that is the case, reference of a formal agreement between the financing entities.

Complaints:
Of the final decision list, after approval by the President of IPCA, applicants can file a complaint to the President of IPCA, within 15 working days from the notification date, to the email [email protected] , without the complaint having suspending effects on the procedure.
