A call is open for the award of 6 Research Initiation Scholarship(s) under the R&D project/unit Verão com Ciência of the
UID 4501 - Instituto de Biomedicina - Aveiro (iBiMED), under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area: Biomedical Sciences
2. Funding Source:
a) Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MCTES, through national funds (PIDDAC)
3. Admission Requirements:
1) Students developing teaching or research activities at the Department of Medical Sciences or the Biomedicine
Institute of the University of Aveiro (IBIMED) and enrolled in a degree, master's or integrated master's programme in
the area of biomedical or related sciences, with the purpose of obtaining initial scientific training integrated within
research projects.
The proof of registration must be made until the contract is awarded. The candidate may attach a statement of honour
that he/she meets the requirements for registration for bachelor's, master's or integrated master's degrees.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese
higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August,
which approves the juridical regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed
by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 3
August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.
4. Eligibility: Candidates who comply with the provisions of paragraph a) of no. 1 of article 2 of the Research Grant
Holder Statute, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28 August, and also paragraphs 1 and 2 of article 5 of the
Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology are eligible. The BII(s) cannot be awarded to
those who have already benefited from research grants directly or indirectly funded by FCT, awarded under the terms
of the Research Grant Holder Statute and paragraph 5 of article 5 of the aforementioned Regulations.
5.Wok plan: It is expected that with these BII students will obtain additional training in the areas of immunology and/or
regenerative medicine. In the regenerative medicine miniproject the students will learn cell reprogramming protocols
and will test some pluripotency markers (Sox2 or Nanog) through the immunofluorescence technique. Regarding the
immunology area, the main objective will be to evaluate the potential usefulness of immunomodulators for use in antitumour
therapy, autoimmune diseases or infection. This will involve determining the cytotoxicity of the drugs on
dendritic cells and evaluating their impact on the activation/maturation of these cells.

recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
7. Place of Work: The work will be carried out at the Biomedicine Institute of the University of Aveiro / Department of
Medical Sciences of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professors Bruno Miguel Bernardes de Jesus, Bruno Miguel Rodrigues das Neves, Catarina Rodrigues de Almeida, Sandrina Nóbrega Pereira and Sandra Isabel
Moreira Pinto Vieira.
8. Duration of the scholarship(s): The fellowship will last for 1 month, scheduled to start on 22 August 2022.
9. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant is €446.12, according to the table of monthly
maintenance allowance values, set out in Annex I of Regulation no. 950/2019, subject to any updates that may be
applicable, under the terms of no. 2 of article 18 of Regulation no. 950/2019, of 29 November, published in Diário da
República, no. 241, Series 2, of 16 December (FCT, I.P. Research Grant Regulations). The grant holder may also be
reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this scheme.
10. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be as follows: curricular evaluation where candidates CV's
will be evaluated according to their academic background and suitability to the above work plan (valoration of 80%) and
motivation letter (valoration of 20%).

University of Aveiro;
Effective members: Dr. Sandrina Nóbrega-Pereira, Auxiliary Researcher of the University of Aveiro and Dr. Catarina
Rodrigues de Almeida, Assistant Professor of the University of Aveiro;
Substitute Members: Doctor Bruno Miguel Rodrigues das Neves and Doctor Sandra Isabel Moreira Pinto Vieira, both
Auxiliary Professors of the University of Aveiro.
12. Application deadline and form of presentation of applications: The call is open from 14 to 20 July, only applications
received by the established deadline will be admitted.

13. Form of publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be publicised through an ordered
list sent by email to all candidates. Considering the exceptional nature of the support to be granted and the short
duration of the grants, under the terms of paragraphs a) and c) of article 124 of the CPA, the prior hearing of candidates
and complaints is waived.
