CONTEST EDITION FOR RESEARCH INITIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Bearing in mind Regulation No. 437/2020 on Research Grants of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, published in the Diário da República 2nd series No. 83 of April 28, it is made public that, by order of 05-08-2021 05/08/2021 of the Vice-President of the IPS Professor Ângela Lemos, in the substitute regime of the President, a contest is open for the attribution of a Research Initiation Scholarship. aimed at carrying out R&D activities for students enrolled in Master's degree., under the project Bioscaff - Production of Ceramic Scaffolds for Bone Regeneration by 3D Printing, financed through IPS with the period for receiving applications from 27-09-2021 to 11-10-2021, in accordance with the following conditions :

  • Duration of the Scholarship: The scholarship lasts for 4 months.
  • Recipients: The scholarship is intended for candidates with the following profile:
  • • Students enrolled in a master's degree in Technology /Biomedical Engineering or related fields;

    • Knowledge in 3D printing, CAD modeling and laboratory techniques;
    • Sense of responsibility and ability to communicate and integrate into multidisciplinary work teams.
  • Financial component: According to the Table consisting of Annex I to the FCT Scholarship Regulation, Regulation No. 950/2019 published in the Diário da República, 2nd series of December 16, 2019 (updated), the scholarship amount corresponds a € 446,12 ., being paid monthly, by bank transfer.
  • Activity plan:
  • The plan of activities to be developed by the scholarship holder is inserted in activities 3 and 4 of the BioScaff project.

    Main activities:

    • CAD modeling of geometries for drawing scaffolds;

    • Preparation of composite resins for the production of scaffolds;

    • Printing (SLA) of scaffolds;

    • Morphological and mechanical analysis of the scaffolds produced;

    • CAD modeling and scaffold printing for a lumbar fusion cage.

    Month 1:

    • CAD modeling of geometry for scaffolds;

    • Preparation of resins;

    • Scaffold printing;

    Month 2:

    • Preparation of resins;

    • Scaffold printing;

    • Morphological and mechanical characterization;

    Month 3:

    • Morphological and mechanical characterization;

    • CAD modeling of scaffolds in the shape of a lumbar fusion cage;

    • Printing of modeled scaffolds;

    Month 4:

    • Morphological and mechanical characterization of the lumbar fusion cage;

  • Evaluation and ranking criteria:
  • - 5.1.CURRICULUM EVALUATION and MOTIVATION LETTER (CE+ML)-(scale of 0-15 values)

  • Academic training (weighting of 0.30) - maximum 15 values
  • Enrollment in a master's course in the areas of Technology/ Biomedical Engineering

    --- 5.2.SELECTION INTERVIEW (0-5 points scale)

    In the interview, 4 evaluation parameters are defined and their classification results from the following formula: I=MI+TTK+CS+VEF

    • Motivation and Interest (MI)
    • Theoretical and Technical Knowledge (TTK)
    • Critical Sense (CS)
    • Verbal Expression and Fluency (VEF)

    Each dimension is scored with 1.25 points if the candidate demonstrates competence or behavior in the assessment and 0 points if not.

    The classification of each candidate will be calculated by the sum of the values obtained in the CURRICULUM EVALUATION and in the MOTIVATION LETTER and in the SELECTION INTERVIEW.

    The ranking of candidates will be expressed on a scale from 0 to 20, rounded to the nearest tenth, according to the valuation assigned to the criteria specified above. In case of a tie, the tie that has achieved the highest value in the Interview component will be used as a tie-breaker.

    In order for the candidate to be admitted, he/she must reach a minimum total quotation of 9.5.

    Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be created, which will be used for the eventual hiring of the candidate ranked in 2nd place, in the event of withdrawal of the candidate ranked in 1st place, or candidates/ the following in the final ranking in case of more dropouts.

  • Application documents: The application must be accompanied by the following documentation:
  • • Letter of motivation addressed to the President of the IPS;

    • Candidacy form;

    • Curriculum vitae;

    • Proof of student status of the degree and course, issued by the Academic Division of the Higher Education Institution in which you are enrolle.

  • Form of submission of the application: The application must be made by filling out the standard form, available on the IPS website, at www.ips.pt , in the Central Services/UAIIDE/Research Scholarships tabs, and sent to [email protected] or through the address, Campus do IPS, Estefanilha, 2910-761 Setúbal, until the application deadline.
  • Jury: The jury is composed of 3 PhD professors, namely:
    • Presidente- Professor Doutor Ricardo Miguel Gomes Simões Baptista, Professor Adjunto da Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Setúbal/IPS;
    • Vogal efetivo- Professor Doutor Célio Gabriel Figueiredo Pina, Professor Coordenador da Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Setúbal/IPS;
    • Professora Doutora Ana Mafalda Saldanha Guedes, Professora Adjunto da Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Setúbal/IPS.
