Research Initiation Grant (BII)

The grant (BII) will be aimed at the implementation and development of the following activities:

1) Support in the fieldwork of sample collection in the field trials of: soil, vegetal material and organic layers; sample conditioning and transport to ESAC;

2) Support in the previous preparation of the soil samples: drying and sieving;

3) Support in the chemical analyses in laboratory (nitrogen compounds analysis among others nutrients);

4) Support on Data processing and dissemination support.

The grant will last for 5 months, under exclusivity, scheduled to begin in June 2022. The grant cannot go beyond the date of the end of the project (31/12/2022).

The Monthly Maintenance Allowance corresponds to the basic value of 486.12 euros per month.

- Prove to be a student enrolled in a higher technical professional course, a degree or an integrated master's, in the specific scientific area, aiming at the beginning of their scientific training through integration in R&D projects;

- have experience in the Functional Contents of the Operation and Domain in the application of techniques and protocols in the field and laboratory:

1) Support in the fieldwork of sample collection in the field trials of: soil, vegetal material and organic layers; sample conditioning and transport to ESAC;

2) Support in the previous preparation of the soil samples: drying and sieving;

3) Support in the chemical analyses in laboratory (nitrogen compounds analysis among others nutrients);

4) Support on Data processing and dissemination support.

according to the following formula:

Assigned note (from 0 to 100) = (0,5*C1 + 0,5*C2) * F1 * F2 * F3

C1 – Experience in field sampling: soil, plant material and organic layers; and first processing of soil samples (drying and screening);

C2 - Experience in the analysis of nitrogenous compounds.

Weighting factors F1, F2 and F3 are defined as follows:

F1 - Area of Study / Training:

F1 = 1.0 Area of Study / Training in the specific scientific area of Biotechnology;

F1 = 0.5 Area of Study / Training in the specific scientific area of Bioengineering or Biochemistry

F1 = 0.1 Area of Study / Training for graduates in other areas.

F2 - Experience in the application of the techniques and protocols of the activities to be carried out and indicated above:

F2 = 1.0 for work experience or in service provision of more than 3 years;

F2 = 0.5 for experience in service provision, proven volunteering;

F2 = 0.3 for experience and training within the curricular area;

F2 = 0.1 for training within the curricular area.

F3 - Knowledge of the Portuguese language:

F3 = 1.0 with knowledge of the Portuguese language;

F3 = 0.1 without knowledge of the Portuguese language.
