A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1, one Research Grant(s) (BI) in the scope of R&D project “Exploring dimension controlled nanostructures for energy efficient cooling via magnetocaloric studies Ref. EXPL/CTM CTM/0054/2021), under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area: Physics/Materials Science

2. Funding Source) Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MCTES, through national funds (PIDDAC) .

Students enrolled in masters in Engineering Physics/Physics/Materials Science or candidates with masters in Engineering Physics/Physics/Materials Science enrolled in a non-degree course in University of Aveiro.

The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in a master's degree or in non-degree course.

Cursos - Universidade de Aveiro (ua.pt) e Formação na UA - formacao - Universidade de Aveiro )

4. Eligibility: Research Fellow Statute as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, as well as n. 1 of article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology . The RG(s) awarded to undergraduate or master students enrolled in courses that do not confer academic degree may only be granted to those who do not exceed, upon conclusion of the grant contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in that type of grant, consecutive or interpolated, under the terms of no.5 of article 6 of the aforementioned Regulations.

5. Work plan: The candidate is expected to fabricate nanostructures of perovskite magnetic oxides to study their structure, morphology and magnetic properties. Size and shape effects on magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of various nanostructures will be studied in detail. The specific objectives are (a) synthesis of shape-controlled nanostructures by chemical methods, (b) structural characterization by X-ray diffraction, (c) characterization of microstructure by scanning/tunneling electron microscopy, (d) magnetic characterization.
