The University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) opens a call for one (1) Research Grant for PhD students, in Animal Science and Veterinary Sciences, in the frame of the R&D project “oneHcancer – One Health approach in animal cancer” (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000078) with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the Northern Regional Operational Program.

Admission requirements:

  • Master in Veterinary Medicine (integrated master’s degree).
  • Applicants enrolled in or who meet the requirements to enrol in a course (3rd cycle), in accordance with the FCT Research Grants Regulation*.

    Work plan:

    The candidate will carry out R&D activities within the scope of the “oneHcancer – One Health approach in animal cancer” project, namely:

    1) Study of ruminants and swine cancer in slaughterhouses from the North of Portugal;

    2) Histopathological examination of routinely processed samples and special staining techniques - histochemical and immunohistochemical methods;

    3) Genetic approach to cancer risk;

    4) Genotyping.

    Workplace:

    The work will be developed at the Animal and Veterinary Research Centre of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, under the scientific supervision of Professor Cristina Maria Teixeira Saraiva.

    The work will have scientific co-supervision of Professor Isabel Cristina Ribeiro Pires and Professor Maria da Conceição Medeiros de Castro Fontes.

    Duration of scholarship:

    The fellowship will last for 12 months, starting from October 2021. The scholarship contract may be renewed, and the total duration may not exceed 24 months.

    Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

    The scholarship amount corresponds to €1104.64, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The period of payment of the scholarship is monthly and through bank deposit, check or another equivalent method.

    Selection Methods:

    The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

    A. Curriculum vitae (45%).

    B. Previous experience in the project area (25%).

    C. Interview (30%).

    Form of advertising/notification of results:

    The final results of the evaluation will be publicized through a ranked list posted on the UTAD Campus Online Page (http://www.campus.utad.pt/bolsasinvestigacao/candidaturas ), with the candidate being approved notified via email.

    If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the aforementioned disclosure, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
