National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research, I.P. (INIAV) – Polo Alcobaça

The National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research opens a position for one Research grant in the scope of the project cLabel+: Innovative Natural, Nutritious and Consumer Oriented “Clean Label” Foods with the reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046080 financed by the Competitiveness and Internationalization Thematic Operational Programme (POCI), under the COMPETE2020, PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the co-financing of European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under the following conditions:

1. Type and number of positions: 1 research grant for graduates with a Chemistry degree, a Biochemistry degree, a Food Technology degree, a Biological Sciences degree, a Nutrition degree, a Biotechnology degree or a degree in a similar area.

2. Requirements:

  • Academic degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology, Biological Sciences, Nutrition, Biotechnology or in a similar area.
  • Proof of entry in the 2nd cycle of studies conferring academic degree (Master) or diploma of approval of the curricular component, to be presented until contracting.

    • 3. Preferencial factors:

  • Preference is given to those who are in the 2nd year of master's degree;
  • Experience in the evaluation of fruit quality parameters through different methods;
  • Knowledge and experience of HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) applied to food analysis;
  • Curricular experience in laboratory practices and/or evidence of professional experience in the area;
  • Basic computer knowledge from a user perspective;
  • Professional rigor and good teamwork ability;
  • Ability of verbal expression and fluency in Portuguese and English;
  • Driving licence;
  • Immediate availability.

    • 4. Work plan:

  • Participation in the activities of PPS 2 (“Innovative solutions and "clean label" for reducing sugar and modelling the sweetening power in foods”) in the frame of cLabel+ assigned to Estação Nacional de Fruticultura Vieira de Natividade of INIAV, this includes the analysis of quality parameters of different pear and apple varieties and the determination of sugars in fruits pulps by chromatographic methods;
  • Collaboration in the discussion results;
  • Participation in the organization and actions to disseminate the results.

    • 5. Legislation and Regulations:

    Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, approved by Law nr. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, Law No. 12/2013 of January 29 and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019. Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, which approves the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation, I.P. available on (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento ) pursuant to Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28, which updated several provisions of the EBI.

    6. Duration of the Grant:

    The grant will start on January 2023 and will have duration of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal if the project is extended.

    7. Monthly maintenance allowance:

    According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is 835,98 €/month, being the payment method for the Fellow by Wire Transfer.

    The monthly value of the scholarship is, according to the stock chart of the exchanges awarded directly by FCT, I.P., in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ) Regulation No 950/2019 of 16 December. The periodicity of payment of the scholarship is monthly and by bank transfer.

    The research fellowship will receive personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by adhering to the voluntary social insurance scheme in accordance with the Code of Contributory Schemes of the Social Security System.

    9. Technical guidance: The grant will be guided by the Senior Researcher Claudia Sánchez.

    10. Additional Documents:

    The application must contain the following documents:

  • Detailed curriculum vitae (dated and signed) - mandatory;
  • Letter of motivation (dated and signed) addressed to the Project Manager, Carina Almeida, which must include the full identification of the candidate and the reference to this announcement No. 27/2021/BI - mandatory;
  • Documents (digital copies) proving the elements considered most relevant and certificates of academic qualifications - mandatory;
  • Other documents which the applicant considers relevant to the assessment of its technical and scientific merit.

    • 11. Selection method and its value: Selection Criteria:

    The selection method, with an eliminatory character, will consist of a curricular evaluation and interview, if the jury deems it necessary.

    The criteria for evaluating applications shall be based on the combined assessment of the following criteria:

    AQ - Academic qualifications;

    PE - Professional training, professional experience and profile adequacy;

    E – If the jury deems it necessary, an individual interview will be conducted with the candidates to assess the adequacy of the profile.

    Formula for serialization: Final Classification (FC) = 0.7AQ + 0.3 PE or

    FC =0.6AQ + 0.2PE + 0.2E

    12. Composition of the Selection Jury:

    The jury of the contest has the following composition:

    1st effective member – Carina Almeida

    2nd effective member – Ana Teresa Silva

    Substitute member – Carmo Serrano

    13. Announcement/ notification of the results:

    Based on the classification obtained by the candidates, the Jury will proceed to their ordination. The lists of candidates admitted and excluded and the final classification of the competition will be sent to the respective e-mails and posted on the premises of the services of INIAV, I.P. in Alcobaça.

    After the results have been published, applicants must be considered automatically notified so that, if they wish to comment on the hearing of interested parties, they can do so within 10 working days of the date of publication. At the end of this period, the selected candidate will be notified in writing of the grant assignment and communication of the effective start date.

    In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the candidate immediately best ranked will be notified and thus successively.
