A call is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Grant (BI) for a Master's degree holder (Reference BIOPOLIS 2026-28) within the scope of the project AlienSMART – WebGIS decision-support system to support the reporting and management of invasive alien species, supported by operation no. 16009 (COMPETE2030-FEDER-00714900), co-financed by national funds through FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., and by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under Portugal 2030 and the European Union. FCT grant reference: 2023.17547.ICDT.

Skills/Qualifications

Students enrolled in a study cycle leading to a PhD degree in Biology or related areas, preferably with previous experience in coordinating communication and capacity-building plans, organising and publishing socio-ecological databases, and experience in organising and facilitating events with stakeholders. Academic degrees obtained abroad must be recognised by a competent Portuguese institution, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August, this requirement being mandatory at the date of contractualisation of the grant.
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing support in the tasks of the AlienSMART project: 1. communication, dissemination and capacity-building of relevant stakeholders; 2. data harmonisation and design of the workflow for modelling (national scale) and detection (regional scale) of invasive alien species; 3. experimentation with stakeholder participation.


Specific Requirements
  • Proven experience in the development of outreach materials: websites, communication materials, social media management, newsletters, etc.
  • Proven experience in the coordination and development of communication plans.
  • Proven experience in the coordination and development of capacity-building plans.
  • Proven skills in the organisation and publication of socio-ecological databases.
  • Proven collaboration with private sector institutions / public institutions / NGOs.
  • Experience in the preparation and submission of scientific articles (as an author).
  • Mandatory fluency in Portuguese and English.
