RESEARCH GRANT (BI) (1 vacancy)

 

 

Reference: 2024-001-BI-Marina-Forests

 

A competition is open for the attribution of 1 Research Grant in the framework of the project “Marina-Forests. Improving the ecological state of marinas by using animal forests as nature-based solution”, within the R&D Institution CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), with the reference 2022.06806.PTDC, supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, according to the following conditions:

 

  • Scientific area: Biological Sciences and Marine Biology.
  •  Admission requirements:
  •  

  • The candidates must hold a degree in Biology, Marine Biology or related areas.
  • Experience in sampling of organisms in intertidal and subtidal marine ecosystems.
  • Experience in sorting and identification of marine invertebrates from rocky and sediment shores.
  • Experience in data analyses.
  • Availability to work in a flexible schedule.
  • Publications and congress communications related to the project will be considered.
  • Driving licence.
  • The candidate should be enrolled in a Master or PhD degree or be enrolled in a non-degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units. If the applicant is not yet enrolled, she/he must meet the requirements to register; enrolment will be mandatory and proof necessary only at the moment of scholarship contracting.

    Note: In the case of enrolment in courses that do not confer academic degree, the research grant can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with the signing of the research grant contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in this type of grant, consecutive or interpolated.

    Academic degrees awarded by a foreign higher education institution must comply with the provisions of Decree Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, being any formalities established therein fulfilled only by the date of the contracting act.

                                          

     

    3.  Work plan:

    The candidate will be involved in field and laboratory works mainly in the trial and identification of marine invertebrates and data analyses. The candidate will also collaborate in the elaboration of scientific papers, congress communications and divulgation activities in the framework of the project.

    4.  Legislation and official rules:

    Law no. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellowship and Studentship Regulation) and amended by Law No.202/2012, 27th August; Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. and CIIMAR Grants Regulation.

    5.  Work place:

    The work will be carried out at Coastal Biodiversity Laboratory in CIIMAR, Edifício do Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos and 2.54 Laboratory in Department of Biology of FCUP, Rua do Campo Alegre, s/n, 4169-007 Porto, under the scientific supervision of María Purificación Veiga.

    6.  Duration of the grant:

    Duration of 6 months, starting April 2024, under the regime of exclusive dedication, eventually renewable according to legal terms, up to the end of the project.

     

    7.  Monthly maintenance stipend:

    The monthly maintenance allowance is 990,98€ (nine hundred and ninety Euros and ninety eight cents Euros Tax Free), in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ).

     

    8.  Selection methods:

    The first ranking of candidates will be performed after a CV evaluation based on:

    The Degree grade plus scientific area: 40%;

    Experience in the research field: 60%.

    The evaluation process may include an interview with the first three graders, which is intended to clarify aspects related to the results of their research, in which case the interview weighs 20% and the previous evaluation weighs 80%.

    The jury reserves the right to not assign the research grant if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile.

     

    9.  Composition of the jury selection:

    President of the jury: PhD Maria Purificación Veiga Sánchez.

    Vogal: PhD Marcos Rubal García.

    Vogal: PhD Juan Moreira da Rocha.

     

     10.  Form of Advertising/notification of results:

    The final results of the evaluation will be published on the website of CIIMAR and sent by e-mail. The candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the "Código do Procedimento Administrativo" in a preliminary hearing setting. The jury reserves the right not to assign the research grant if none of the candidates meet all the requirements and match the desired profile

     

    11.   Deadline for application and presentation of applications:

    The competition is open between 13 until 26 march 2024. The applications must be formalized, compulsorily, by sending the following documents:
