A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for PhD students (BI) or MSc degree holder enrolled in a non-academic degree course, within the R&D Project “PrunusPós - Optimization of processes for the storage, cold conservation, active and/or intelligent packaging and food quality traceability in post-harvested fruit products”, project n.º PDR2020-101-031695, Partnership n.º 87, initiative n.º 175, promoted by PDR 2020 and co-funded by FEADER within Portugal 2020, taking place at the C-MAST ‐ Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences and Technology, Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Electrical Engineering

Objectives:

(1) Experimental testing for the characterization of storage, cold storage and post-harvest fruit packaging;

(2) Quantification of reference operation times and parameters, based on experimental data in a controlled and modified atmospheres;

(3) Experimental tests concerning active and/or intelligent (including monitoring devices) packaging technological solutions;

(4) Development of a computational predictive tool to provide support for real-time decision-making in the production, sale, distribution, marketing and storage.

(5) Computer front-end software of predictive tools.

The expected outcome of the research work requires at least 2 scientific publications (1 in international conference and 1 in peer review international journals) during the grant period.

Work plan:

This grant comprises the:

(1) Experimental testing for the characterization of storage, cold storage and post-harvest fruit packaging;

Place of Work:

The work will be developed at the premises of C-MAST‐Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences and Technologies and Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the scientific guidance of Doctor Pedro Dinis Gaspar.

Fellowship duration and conditions:

The scholarship is expected to start in January 2022 and cannot exceed the project end date (30/06/2022).

The activity will take place on an exclusive dedication basis, according to the RBIUBI.

Publication/notification of results:

The final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail.
