RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

According to article 8 of the Regulation for Scientific Research Fellowships of FCT, IP is made public that, by deliberation of the Director Council of Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P. (IPMA, I.P.) from 22/12/2021, the opening call to a Research Fellowship position was authorized with the reference IPMA-2022-001-BI, in the scientific field of Marine Biology or similar within the framework of the project SAUDE&AQUA "MAR-02.05.01-FEAMP-0009”, financed by the MAR2020 program.

1 Recipients

The fellowship is destinated to a MsC holder degree, to carry out activities to support research in the area of veterinary or similar.

2: Admission requirements

The candidate should have a MsC degree in the area of veterinary or similar. The candidate must be registered in a PhD or integrated in a educational project developed in a higher education institution in association or cooperation with R&D unit(s).

3: Work plan:

The work plan for the candidate to be recruited includes the following activities:

Collaboration in the maintenance of marine fish trials;

2) Analysis of fish parasites;

3) Microbiological and histological analysis;

4) Data processing and statistical analysis;

5) Dissemination of results;

6) Availability to work on weekends and holidays.

4: Objectives to be achieved

a) Diagnosis of marine fish pathologies;

b) Collaborate in trials with marine fish parasites and bacteria;

c) Perform techniques for the identification of pathogens and histological analysis;

d) Data treatment and report writing;

e) Participation in dissemination activities related to the project.

5: Duration and Renovation conditions

The fellowship on an exclusive basis, due to start in 15th of February of 2022, will have a duration of 11 months, with the possibility of being renewed under the terms of article 15 of the FCT Scientific Research Scholarship Regulation until the end of the project. The work to be carried out within the scope of this scholarship is of a temporary nature, with no continuity beyond the conclusion of the project.

6: Supervision and workplace

The work to be developed will take place within the framework of the EPPO/IPMA EPPO- Estação Piloto de Piscicultura de Olhão, Av. Parque Natural da ria Formosa 8700-194 Olhão, Portugal), under the guidance of Florbela Soares, researcher. The location of the activities can be changed according to the work plan.

The jury, appointed by order of the Director Council of IPMA, I.P., is composed by the following members:

1st substitute member: Ana Matias, researcher– IPMA, IP;

2nd substitute member: Laura Ribeiro, researcher– IPMA, IP.

9: Selection and methods criteria

9.1 Admission requirements: all candidates fulfilling the points 2 and 12 in this notice will be admitted.

9.2 Evaluation method: the candidates will be evaluated by Curricular Assessment (CA) and Interview (I). The interview will only be performed in the event of a tie.

9.3 The Curricular Assessment (CA) is expressed quantitatively from 0 to 20 points, corresponding to the sum of the obtained in the following criteria according to the following formula: CE = 0.3*A + 0.7*B.

  • The Academic Qualification (A) correspond to the classification obtained in academic background (“Licenciatura” and MsC average) (0-20 points);
  • Complementary knowledge and training (B) will be scored from 0 to 20 as follows:
  • a) Experience in aquaculture (0-2 points);

    b) Experience in biological samplings (0-3);

    c) Knowledge in diagnosis of marine fish pathologies (0-6 points);

    d) Experience in microbiology techniques (0-6 points);

    e) Experience in histology (0-3 points).

    9.4 Based on the Curriculum Evaluation (CE), an Ordered List of candidates will be made. Only in the event of a tie the candidates will be invited to the interview. The Interview may be done in person or online and will be scored adding the obtained values according to the following criteria: a) Motivation; b) Autonomy; c) Adaptability; and d) Expression and overall fluency. These criteria will be classified from zero to twenty, with the total interview resulting from the sum of the criteria to be divided by four (0-20 points).

    9.5. The final classification of each candidate will be decided by simple majority of the jury members.

    9.6 Ordered List of the Final Classification: all the candidates eligible to the call will be ranked by the classification given by the jury. If an interview is conducted the final classification (FC) is obtained by the weighted sum of the Curricular Assessment (CA), weighting 40%, and of the interview (I), weighting 60%. (FC = CA*0.4+ I*0.6). If an interview is not conducted, the final classification corresponds to the Curricular Assessment (CA).

    9.7 The jury members will conduct the necessary meetings to reach the final decision, documenting in minutes all the procedures used, as well as all the elements considered relevant for the final decision. The jury may decide not to award a grant if the candidates do not meet the required criteria.

    10: Communication of results

    Upon approval of the ranked list by the jury, the evaluation process is considered closed, and the candidates will be notified by email within 5 working days, and hearing process will be conducted, under the terms of Administrative Procedure Code.

    In the event of the candidate's withdrawal, either at the admission stage or after recruitment, the selection board reserves the right to call the next candidate and so on until the vacancy is filled, in accordance with the stipulated in the tender selection methods and criteria, for this purpose, a “selection reserve list” is constituted which corresponds to the final classification list.

    11: Research Fellowship Contest approval

    Upon conclusion of the hearing process and its appreciation by the jury members, the final decision will be proposed for approval by the Director Council of IPMA, I.P.

    12: Submission of applications:

    12.1 Applications to the research fellowship must be formalized by sending, to the email [email protected] , the application form available at https://www.ipma.pt/export/sites/ipma/bin/docs/organizacionais/IPMA-FORM... , indicating in subject “application for the scholarship IPMA-2022-001-BI”, along with the following documents:

  • Copy of the identification document;
  • Certificate of permanent residence, authorization for permanent residence or long-term residence status, if applicable;
  • Documents proving the conditions required by the type of fellowship, namely copy of diplomas that confirm the Academic Degree, recognized by a Portuguese University, if the degree has been obtained abroad;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate and signed;
  • Copy of the documents attesting the professional experience and training, namely recommendation letters, course or internship certificates;
  • Recent document attesting the current professional status, indicating the nature of the link and functions, and may be replaced by a declaration of honor if the candidate does not carry out any professional or service activity;
  • Document proving the enrollment in a PhD or in a non-academic degree integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

  • 12.2 In case of not being possible to obtain the certificates mention in c) and g) until the due date of the application, the candidate may replace them by declarations of their responsibility with the corresponding content, submitted electronically and, in case of grant of the fellowship, send the official certificates to the IPMA, IP, before the contract being handled.

    12.3 If the documents, referred in b), e), f) and g) are not delivered within 1 month after the publication of results, implies that the fellowship is not granted.

    12.4. The application submission period will run from January 20th to February 02th 2022.
