Call for Research Fellowship (BI)
INEGI-Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial announces an open call for a student in the scope of the project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-032419 with the financial support of FCT/MCTES, under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Mechanical Engineering
Work Plan title: Multiscale methodology with model order reduction for advanced materials and processes / Metodologias multi-escala com modelos de redução de ordem para materiais avançados e processos
1. Grant duration and regime:
Duration of 3 months, starting in January 2022, possibly renewable. The granting of the scholarships does not generate or entitle a legal-labour relationship, it is exercised under an exclusive dedication regime, and the Scholarship holder is granted the Scholarship Holder Status, in accordance with the Regulation for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., both in their current wording.
2. Work plan:
This work overall goal is to develop a methodology that allows optimizing design and manufacturing processes of multiphase materials, using numerical models at different scales. These models should describe quantitatively relationships among geometry, processing variables, microstructure features, bulk properties and service performance.
This work will include the following tasks:
Task 1 - Digital material model of a Representative Volume Element (RVE), based on the finite element method that characterizes the material at the micro scale capturing the important geometric features of the microstructure, and physical properties of the different phases and boundaries.
Task 2 - Multiscale modelling by providing the bridge between a macro-scale approach and the micro scale model developed in task 1.
Task 3 - Model order reduction by methods that can considerably reduce requirements of data storage and time, aiming at capturing the dominant components of the full solution model by modal decomposition.
3. Scientific supervision:
Prof. Doutor Abel Dias dos Santos (FEUP/INEGI).
4. Admission requirements:
5. Academic Qualifications:
Students with master's degree in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred conditions are prior knowledge and experience in:
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries shall be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the DL 66/2018, of August 16th , and the Ordinance nr. 33/2019, of January 25th. It is mandatory to present the certificate to sign the contract.
More information is available on: https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/reconhecimento .
6. Monthly allowance:
The scholarship amount corresponds to €1074,64 according to FCT (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), I.P. The scholarship payment will be made by bank transfer.
7. Other benefits:
Voluntary Social Security reimbursement, corresponding to the 1st level of the contributory base (for scholarships lasting 6 months or more); Personal Accident Insurance.
8. Applicable Legislation:
Research Fellow Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of August 18th, in the current wording published by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28th; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (Regulation No. 950 / 2019 of December 16th https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ).

10. Composition of the evaluation panel:
President: Prof. Doutor Abel Dias dos Santos. Vowels: Doutor Rui Ricardo Loureiro Amaral; Doutor Ana Rosanete Reis. Alternate Vowel: Doutor Filipe Gonçalo Andrade da Silva.
11. Publication/notification of results:
The final evaluation results (ordered list) will be publicized in www.inegi.pt .
After being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal by email (rhumanos@inegi.up.pt ).
12. Submission of applications:
Applications must include the following documents:
13. Expressions of interest should be sent between the 20 to 31 December 2021 through the official INEGI website www.inegi.pt in join us | Research Grants by pressing Apply RH MSCore UTAF 44/2021 or by mail.
14. Working place:
The work will be carried out in INEGI facilities in Porto Portugal or other places required to execute the work plan.
