1. Tender open for the award of 1 Scholarship for PhD students (Bolsa de Investigação).
This grant is funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, under R&D project “AfroLab – Building African Literatures. Institutions and Consecrations inside and outside the Portuguese-language Space 1960-2020” (PTDC/LLT-OUT/6210/2020), of the Centre for Lusophone and European Literatures and Cultures, from School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon.
2. The scholarship will be awarded for 12 months, and may be renewed up to a maximum of 48 months and during the eligibility of the project.
3. The scholarship will be supervised by Professor Ana Paula Tavares.
4. The scholarship will be included in the work of Task 4 – Literary Institutionalization in Portugal and Africa of the AFROLAB project. The scholarship will also be integrated into the other research and dissemination activities of Group 2 of CLEPUL (African Cultures and Literatures in Portuguese Language). The scholarship will be asked to integrate the activities of this task, including sub-tasks of research and processing of relevant data. The scholarship will also participate in the project's scientific dissemination actions, contributing to the preparation of scientific publications, to the organization of conferences, round tables, workshops and other events, as well as to the planning and execution of the project's research activity in general. . The scholarship will be supported by the core team of the project and accompanied by the supervisor in order to continue his scientific training, improving his research work skills.
The Task in question is led by Prof. Ana Paula Tavares and will count with the contribution of several other team members putting into practice their interdisciplinary knowledge on both contemporary and African Literatures in Portuguese history, and will deploy both historic and literary research aiming: to identify and characterize the Portuguese institutions that address African Literatures in Portuguese publishing, as well as the authors that are gathered in these institutions; concerning the historical approach, this task will reach back to the independence movements and their influence on the birth of African Literatures in Portuguese, as well as some colonial institutions (like Casa dos Estudantes do Império – CEI) researching the post-revolutionary frenzy about African material in the Portuguese publishing, African institutions and the Portuguese academia in their contribution to the institution of this Literatures. From a methodological point of view, research on literary systems theory, the history of literary institutions and the history of African Literatures in Portuguese will be covered; on the other hand, published interviews and testimonies of writers will also be considered. The expected result of this task will be the mapping of literary institutions in Portugal and in Portuguese-speaking African countries.

No required application document may be submitted after the deadline.
For application purposes, diplomas, certificates and transcripts need not be submitted. In lieu, a statement of compliance is required. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to the signing of the contract.
Fellowships applicants must show that they meet the necessary conditions to enrol in the program leading to the attainment of the requested academic degree. Proof of acceptance will be required prior to the signing of the contract.
