Offer Description

The Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso, F.P is opening a competition for the award of one (1) Research Grant (BI) for a graduate enrolled in a master's degree, within the scope of the IPM-Popillia research project. Integrated Pest Management of the Invasive Japanese Beetle, Popillia japonica, funded by H2020 (grant no. 861852) with cc 1021.

 

   1. Object of the Activity:

The scholarship holder will have the following duties:

1 - Carrying out research activities in the IPM Popillia Project;

2 - Organization and management of biological material and databases relating to the IPM-Popillia project;

3 - Participation in the organization of the 4th general assembly of IPM-Popillia, which will be in Ponta Delgada.

2. Scientific Area: Biology

3. Admission requirements:

3.1 Degree in Biology or related sciences;

3.2 Enrollment and enrollment in a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences;

3.3 Training and experience in:

a) Manipulation of organisms and tissues;

b) Carrying out biological tests;

c) Tissue homogenization;

d) Extraction of proteins and nucleic acids;

e) Enzymatic assays and functional assays;

f) Analysis and fractionation of proteins and nucleic acids by electrophoresis;

g) Analysis and fractionation of proteins by chromatography.

4. Applicable legislation and regulations: Scientific Research Fellow Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9th, by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29th, and by Law No. 12/2013 of January 29th, and amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28th, in the current wording (https ://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro ) and Regulation of Research Grants of FCT, I. P, in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ).

 

5. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the facilities of the Azores Biotechnology Center at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Azores in Ponta Delgada, under the scientific guidance of those responsible for the project Professor Nelson Simões and Doctor Duarte Toubarro.

 

6. Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will last for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal during the duration of the respective project task, which has an expected end date of December 2025 according to the scholarship holder's performance, on an exclusive basis, in accordance with the FCT advanced human resources training regulations and under Article 5 of the Research Fellow Statute.

7. Value of the monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €990.98, according to the table of scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ), published in Annex I of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), published by Decree-Law No. 350/2019, of December 16th. The scholarship will be paid monthly by bank transfer. To this value is added Voluntary Social Insurance, corresponding to the 1st level, if the candidate chooses to be awarded it, as well as Personal Accident Insurance.

 

8. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curricular evaluation, with 100% valuation. If the Jury deems it necessary, an interview may be held in the event of a tie between the candidates placed in the first two positions according to the ordering resulting from the previous criteria. In this case, the final score will include the curriculum assessment (as described above), with a rating of 90%, and the interview, with a rating of 10%. If none of the candidates has the appropriate profile (overall assessment less than 50%), the scholarship will not be awarded.

 

9. Composition of the Selection Jury: The Jury is composed of Nelson José de Oliveira Simões, President and the members Doctor Duarte Nuno Toubarro Tiago and Doctor Hugo Ricardo Soares Monteiro.

 

10. Method of publishing/notifying results: The final results of the assessment will be published, through a list ordered by final grade obtained, with candidates notified via email. The provisions of the Administrative Procedure Code apply to this competition and, if the decision is unfavorable, candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment.

 

11. Application deadline and form of submission of applications:

The competition is open from March 8 to 21, 2024.

 

Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents:

a) Request addressed to the President of the Jury;

b) Letter of Motivation;

c) Curriculum Vitae, dated and signed;

d) Copy of legal identification and taxpayer document;

e) Copy of the Certificate of Academic Qualifications, with a list of the assessments obtained;

Holders of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions must be holders of recognition of the academic degree required in this Notice under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August. Recognition of the aforementioned degree must be obtained by the end of the period granted for the conclusion of the contract, if the candidate ordained in an eligible place has obtained the academic degree required in this Notice abroad;

f) Copy of proof of enrollment and enrollment in the study cycle required in this Notice;

Proof must be obtained by the end of the period granted for the celebration.

g) Other documents that the candidate considers relevant for curricular assessment, namely letters of recommendation and documents that attest to experience in the requirements mentioned in point 3.3 of this notice.
