MASTER RESEARCH GRANT – 1 VACANCY

A call is open for awarding 1 Master research grant within the scope of the research project called DM4You, reference PRR-C05-i03-I-000152 funded under the program “PRR – Plan for Recovery and Resilience”, with the following conditions:

 

Scientific Area: Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or similar areas

Grant Topic: Evaluation of proteome from saliva samples collected under a nutritional intervention program.

Admission Requirements:

- To hold a master's degree in the scientific area in which the call is open, with preference for candidates with a master's degree in biochemistry, given the specificity of the work plan.

- Experience in uni- (SDS-PAGE) and two-dimensional electrophoresis techniques.

- Experience in carrying out biochemical analyzes (particularly using the techniques referred to in the previous point) on saliva samples.

- Experience in carrying out tests that involve direct contact with humans and saliva collection.

-  Experience in preparing technical reports.

According to the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for BI (Research Scholarships) must comply with the condition for being awarded the scholarship: effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the award of academic degrees or in courses that do not award an academic degree. Courses that do not lead to an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in paragraph e) of no. 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006 of March 24 and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, with the course plan being included in one or more research areas of the unit.

Workplan: The grant holder will participate in the biochemical analyzes of saliva, namely for protein quantification, protein separation through one- and two-dimensional electrophoresis and sample preparation for mass spectrometry. The saliva samples to be analyzed are those collected during the intervention trial foreseen in the PRR – DM4You project.

Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, as set in the template former.fct.pt/apoios/Minuta_Contrato_Bolsa.docx , pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.dre.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.

 

Workplace: The work will be carried out in Oral Biology and Salivary Proteomics Laboratory – MED, University of Évora, under the scientific guidance of Doctor Elsa Lamy.

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will be held for 3 months, starting in March 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed, according with needs and availability of budget for the financing project.

Value of the monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1,259.64, according to the table of scholarship values ​​awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ), with payments made monthly, via check or bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following:

• curriculum evaluation (100%)

If deemed necessary by the jury, for additional clarification or tie-breaking purposes, the two candidates may be called for a selection interview. In the case of using the interview, the evaluation elements will be valued as follows:

• curriculum evaluation (75%)

• interview (25%)

Method of publishing/notifying results: The results will be publicized, through a list ordered by final grade, posted in a visible and public place, in the building of Regentes Agrícolas, Polo da Mitra, with approved candidates being notified through email. Under the terms of the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.

After communicating the provisional list of evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, make their comments at a prior hearing of interested parties.

Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The competition is open from November 14th to 28th February, 2024 and the selection results will be published by March 1st 2024.

Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications and other supporting documents considered relevant.

For application purposes, proof may be replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, but failure to demonstrate, during the contracting phase, possession of the degree required by the application deadline or failure to present proof of enrollment or enrollment in a study cycle or course that does not award a degree, for scholarships with this component, the candidate's evaluation will be cancelled.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law nº. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25th. Presentation of the certificate is mandatory for signing the contract.
