COMPETITION FOR THE AWARD OF A RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP (BI) FOR THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR WITHIN THE PROJECT "MONTTUR - ECONOMIC DYNAMICS WITH A FOCUS ON TOURISM IN MONTALEGRE: INVESTMENT, RETURN, AND STRATEGIES FOR THE FUTURE" (FLUP/PS-CPS/2024-81843), CURRENTLY AT THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (REF. 2024/22, Pr. 131)
A competition is open for the award of a Research Scholarship (BI) for students enrolled in a master's degree program or registered in a course not leading to an academic degree, holders of a bachelor's degree, for the development of R&D activities within the scope of the Project "MONTTUR - ECONOMIC DYNAMICS WITH A FOCUS ON TOURISM IN MONTALEGRE: INVESTMENT, RETURN, AND STRATEGIES FOR THE FUTURE" (FLUP/PS-CPS/2024-81843), funded by own funds, ongoing at FLUP, under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area(s): Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Sociology, or related fields.

All individuals of legal age holding the following requirements, documented as evidence, may apply for this scholarship:
*If the qualification was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and article 4(2)(e) of Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of August 3, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the date of contracting.

The scholarship aims to carry out work in the context of sustainable rural development in Montalegre, focusing on events such as “Rallycross”, “Sexta Feira 13”, and the “Feira do Fumeiro”. The scholarship holder will be responsible for executing the following tasks:

Research Scholarship Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, in its current wording, the University of Porto Research Scholarship Regulation – Regulation 184/2021, of March 3, amended by Deliberation No. 1301/2021, published in D.R., 2nd series, on December 22, 2021; subsidiarily, Regulation No. 950/2019, of November 29, published in Diário da República, No. 241, 2nd series, of December 16 (FCT, I.P. Research Scholarship Regulation); Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16 (Legal Regime for the Recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions); Administrative Procedure Code (CPA), approved by Decree-Law No. 4/2015, of January 7.
6. Workplace:
The work will be carried out at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Via Panorâmica, s/n, 4150-564 Porto, or in Montalegre and other necessary locations for the execution of the work plan, under the scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. Maria Helena Mesquita Pina, Assistant Professor at FLUP.
7. Duration of the scholarship:
The scholarship will have a duration of 6 months. The scholarship contract, on an exclusive basis, may be renewed, eventually, for equal or different periods, during the eligibility of the current project funding, according to institutional needs and financial availability, up to the maximum duration of the project, never exceeding the limits defined in the Regulation for the type of scholarship in question. The scholarship is scheduled to start on July 1, 2024.
8. Monthly maintenance subsidy amount:
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €990.98 monthly, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country. The scholarship holder will be entitled to reimbursement of the payment of Voluntary Social Security (VSS) related to the status of a research scholarship holder. Payment will be made by FLUP by bank transfer. In addition to this subsidy, the scholarship holder will be covered by personal accident insurance.
9. Selection methods:
Curricular Assessment (CA), which, if the jury deems necessary, may be complemented by an interview (I) with the best-ranked candidates in the CA, up to a maximum of 3 candidates. The final classification will be obtained by the following formula: 0.5 x CA + 0.5 x I, on a scale of 0 (zero) to 20 (twenty) values.
If the interview is not conducted, the final classification will correspond to the classification obtained in the CA.
The curricular evaluation factors are:
a) Experience in research on the indicated themes (rural development, sustainable tourism growth in rural areas, and promotion of local products) – 30%;
b) Good knowledge of geographic information systems – 20%;
c) Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and processing – 20%;
d) Fieldwork experience, namely in conducting surveys and interviews - 20%;
e) Proficiency in the English language, to be evaluated through documents proving courses attended and/or informal experiences duly explained in the curriculum – 10%.
The evaluation factors of the selection interview, if conducted, will be:
a) Domain of basic concepts on sustainable rural development (25%);
b) Experiences in conducting scientific research in the scientific area in question (25%);
c) Experience in fieldwork in the present context (25%);
d) Motivation for the activities to be developed (25%).
Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be established that may be used in case of withdrawal and/or non-submission of the documentation foreseen by the selected person(s). The highest body of the Faculty reserves the right to call the next candidate(s) and so on until the vacancy(ies) is/are filled, at its discretion. This reserve list can be used for up to 12 (twelve) months, counted from the date of approval of the final ranking list. If none of the candidates demonstrate the profile indicated for the execution of the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to the competition.

2nd alternate member - Dr. Luís Antunes Grosso Correia, Assistant Professor, FLUP.
11. Publication/notification of results:
The final results will be disclosed by sending minutes via email provided by the candidates in their application.
Candidates have a period of 10 working days, starting from the 5th immediate day after the notification, to pronounce themselves on the results, if they wish, in a prior hearing of the interested parties, under articles 121 et seq. of the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA).

Failure to submit, in the application, the documents identified in items a) and b) of the previous point will result in the administrative exclusion of candidates.
