1 Research Grant Announcement (M/F)
Call open for applications for a research grant within the framework of project RISC_PLUS- “Resiliência contra os riscos de inundações e secas derivados do impacto das alterações climáticas nas bacias internacionais dos rios Minho e Lima: prevenção, preparação e digitalização”, with reference 0031_RISC_PLUS_6_E, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), in the scope of Interreg VI A Spain – Portugal Cooperation Program (POCTEP) 2021-2027, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements may apply for this grant:
Requirement 1:
- Be a student enrolled in a doctoral program in the area of Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering, a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.
and
Requirement 2:
- Hold a master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or related field.
If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract.
Activity Outline:
- Analysis and treatment of series of hydrometeorological variables;
- Implementation of hydrological and hydraulic models;
- Study of the impact of climate change on water resources;
- Analysis of methodologies for defining new indicators and status indices for scarcity and drought situations;
- Support in organizing and producing final project and product reports and project promotion and dissemination actions.
Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto, in force.
Work place: The work will be developed at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Professor João Pedro Gomes Moreira Pêgo.
Grant duration: Initial duration of 6 months, with the predicted starting date in February 2024, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the project duration.
If it is not possible to guarantee the duration set out in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted depending on the end date of the project, and provided that a minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, as provided for in paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Scholarship Regulations. of Research at the University of Porto.
Any renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 10 of the University of Porto Research Scholarship Regulations.
Stipend: The monthly amount of the grant varies between 1,199.64 € according to the value table of the Research Grants Regulations of the University of Porto and 1,494.64 €, depending on the candidate's profile and previous experience in the project area. Payment will be made via bank transfer.
Selection procedure:
The curriculum of the candidates (60%) will be evaluated based on the merit of the candidate and the following factors will be weighted:
a) Academic training: Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with specialization or relevant component in Hydraulics and Water Resources Management) - 7 points; Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, without specialization or relevant component in Hydraulics and Water Resources Management – 5 points; Master's degree in related areas (with a Hydraulics and Water Resources Management component) - 4 points; Master's degree in related areas (without a Hydraulics and Water Resources Management component) - 1 point;
b) Research experience: in the area of water resources management - 5 points; in related areas – 3 points; in other areas - 1 point.
c) Experience in hydrological modelling: in 1 project/study - 1 point; between 1 and 3 projects/studies – 3 points; in more than 3 projects/studies or more than 3 years of experience - 4 points.
d) Experience with geographic information systems (ArcGIS and/or QGIS): in 1 project/study - 1 point; in more than 1 project/study or more than 1 year of experience - 2 points.
e) Mastery (oral and written) of the Portuguese language and understanding of the Spanish language: 2 points
In the criteria relating to experience, the maximum score will be awarded to the candidate(s) with the longest period of experience and the remaining points will be given in proportion.
Candidates will be classified on a scale of 1 to 20 points, with candidates who obtain a score lower than 13 points in the Curricular assessment not being admitted to the interview (40%). During the interview, topics related to the candidate's work plan and experience and CV will be discussed.
