3 Research Grant Announcement (M/F)

Call open for applications for tree research grant within the scope of actions “INFINITY”, AISME” e “Self-made“, with references 23016, 23053 e 23215 financed by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Manufacturing, a body of the European Union, under the Horizon Europe programme, on the following conditions:

Scientific Area:  Electrical and Computers Engineering

Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements may apply for this grant:

- To be a student enrolled in a master or integrated master program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

And

-  Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;

If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract. 

Activity Outline: The fellow will be integrated in the research activity of the EIT-Manufacturing team, in the scope of the tasks of the actions, as follows:

  • 23016 – INFINITY - cIrcular competeNces to Foster manufacturIng inNovation In-Training company

INFINITY purpose is to foster circular economy skills attainment in manufacturing industries for employees, professionals, as well as vocational students, focusing on technical areas of low environmental footprint systems & circular economy for green manufacturing.

Tasks in the grantee's work plan:

Task 2 - Assessment toward contents development

Task 3 - Learning nuggets development and adaptation

Task 4 - Learning path delivery

 

  • 23053 - AISME - Supporting AI solutions in SMEs

AISME project aims at training managers, engineers, and technicians, working in or for SMEs, in

key subjects to guide manufacturing SMEs to implement sustainable AI solutions.

  • 23215 ‐ Self-Made Self-management & device digitalization in manufacturing

The Self-Made activity will work together with at least 20 Manufacturing SMEs to assess their current digital maturity, identify the required steps and knowledge needs to accelerate their transformation.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Work place: The work will be developed at Department of Informatics Engineering. In Digital and Intelligent Industry research lab (DIGI2), of the Systems and Technologies Research Centre (SYSTEC) of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of Professor Gil Manuel Magalhães de Andrade Gonçalves.

Grant duration: Initial duration of 6 months, with the predicted starting date in Abril 2024, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the end of the project.

If it is not possible to ensure the duration of 6 months estimated in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted according to the end date of the project, and provided that the minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 10 of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Stipend: The grant stipend amount to  €990.98, according to the table of values of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto. Payment is made by bank transfer. 

Selection procedure:

The selection of fellows will be based on a curriculum evaluation (CE), which will focus on the candidate's merit, and an interview (I). The curriculum of each candidate will be evaluated in a 1-5 points scale. The interview will be conducted with the best ranked candidates whose classification in the curricular evaluation is equal to or higher than 4 points (4 in 5 points).

The evaluation criteria for the curricular component are:

Curricular Evaluation = (30%*A)+( 30 %*B)+( 30%*C)+( 10%*D)

  • Academic profile of the applicant: Bachelor degree classification equal to or higher than 13 (5 points); Bachelor Degree classification lower than 13 (2 points););
  • Knowledge of Cyber-Physical Systems, Sensor Networks , Automation, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (1 to 5 points)
  • Knowledge of intelligent systems based on AI, mobile robotics, automation, data science and machine learning, as well as computational learning techniques, (1 to 5 points);
  • D. Motivation letter that will allow to evaluate the English proficiency and motivation of the candidate (1 to 5 points)

    After reviewing the submitted documentation, the Selection Jury will interview the best ranked candidates whose classification in the curricular evaluation is equal to or higher than 4 points points (4 in 5 points) , where topics related to the work plan, previous experience, motivation and CV, and where it will be verified:

    Interview Classification = (50%* I-C1) +(25% * I-C2) +(25% * I-C3)

    I-C1 - Knowledge and motivation to perform the job:

    • Excellent knowledge and motivation - 4 to 5 points
    • Good knowledge and good motivation - 2 to 3 points
    • Lack of knowledge or motivation - 0 to 1 points

    I-C2 - Attitude (evaluates the applicant's behaviour in terms of teamwork skills, conflict management skills, persuasiveness, presentation and confidence)

    • Excellent attitude - 4 to 5 points
    • Adequate attitude - 2 to 3 points
    • Inadequate attitude - 0 to 1 point

    I-C3 - Ability of expression and verbal fluency in Portuguese and/or English (coherence and clarity of speech, richness of vocabulary, ability to understand and interpret the questions asked).

    • Very good ability of expression, communication or interpretation - 4 to 5 points
    • Good capacity of expression, communication or interpretation - 2 to 3 points
    • Difficulty of expression, communication or interpretation - 0 to 1 point

    The final classification of the candidates interviewed will result from the sum of the classifications obtained in the Curricular Evaluation (CE) and Interview (I), attributing to each a weighting factor of 50%.

    Candidates whose application is evaluated with a final mark of less than 4 (four) in 5 (five) points will not be eligible for a scholarship.
