Offer Description

A competition is open for the award of a Research Initiation Grant (BII) within the scope of the “0049_NATUR_FAB_2_E - Fomento de la especialización inteligente, transición industrial y emprendimiento a través de nuevos materiales basados em recursos endógenos compatibles com tecnologias de fabricación aditiva de gran formato” Project, with funding “Programa Interreg VI A España - Portugal (POCTEP) 2021-2027”, for 3 months, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 12 months, starting on 10/06/2024.

 

The scholarship holder’s activities will include:

• study of the main technologies for the manufacture of PLA filaments reinforced with natural fibers;

• assembly and testing of a filament extruder;

• preliminary tests for the manufacture of filaments reinforced with natural fibers.

• preparation of technical reports.

 

The fundamental objective is for the scholarship holder to contribute to the implementation of the project’s various actions actively and effectively, namely, the assembly of a new filament extruder, learning and training in its use. Finally, carry out some preliminary tests on obtaining PLA filaments reinforced with natural fibers.

Candidates must:

• be enrolled in a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related areas;

• present a CV with specific training in topics related to the project's work plan;


Specific Requirements

Candidates must have one or more of the following technical skills:

• experience in developing projects in the area of composite materials, preferably with natural fiber reinforcement;

• knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly additive manufacturing processes.

Benefits

The scholarship amount corresponds to €601,12, according to the table of scholarships awarded by the FCT, I.P. in the country.

The scholarship holder will benefit from a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security Social Security System. The scholarship amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.


Eligibility criteria

Candidates must be enrolled in a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related áreas.


Selection process

The selection methods to be used will be the following:

• Curriculum assessment – 50% (adequacy, average of UC completed from the Bachelor's and Master's degrees; additional training; proven professional experience);

• Interview – 50% a) knowledge of the project; b) motivation; c) presentation of innovative ideas

and proactivity.

The jury may decide not to award the scholarship if there are no candidates with a final classification greater than or equal to 9.5.

• Leonel Domingues Deusdado (substitute member)

 

The communications and final results of the evaluation will be published via the IPB application submission portal or, if necessary, via email notification.

If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to comment, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms set out in the Code of Administrative Procedure.

The final decision may be appealed to the President of the IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.


Additional comments

Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, and verification of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.

 

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
