PUBLIC NOTICE

Title : COMPETITION FOR GRANTING ONE POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP - PCIF/GFC/0078/2018 - 3/2021

A tender is open for the attribution of one Postdoctoral Research Scholarship, within the scope of the R&D project "Influence of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) on the extreme behavior of forest fires”, (PCIF/GFC/0078/2018), funded by by “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P through national funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

  • Scientific Area:
  • • Physics

    • Technology

    • Other - Fire Management and Extreme Fire Behavior

  • Recipients profile/category:
  • The work to be carried out by the candidate aims the identification and location of volatile compounds present in the atmosphere of forests, checking the differences between examples without the presence of fire and examples of time series after the presence of a fire. The objective of this work will be to analyze the data from the Sentinel-5P satellite, through the TROPOMI sensor, processing the level 1B and level 2 data. This analysis will be compared with the data obtained by the FTIR-OP (Fourier-Transform) technique Infrared Spectroscopy Open Field).

    Mandatory requirements:

    Candidates holding a doctoral degree in Biomedical Eng., Physics Eng., Electrotechnical Eng., Chemistry Eng, or similar, may apply to this grant. Documents proving this situation must be presented, at the latest, up to the stage of contracting of the grant. They may be replaced by a declaration under a commitment of honour.

    The registration and/or recognition in Portugal of the doctorate degree will be verified at the time of signing the contract under the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August.

    • Analysis of images and signals from Sentinel satellites

    • Experience in hyperspectral image analysis

    • Image processing using Matlab.

    • Scientific dissemination

    Preferred factors:

    The experience acquired in the preparation and participation in scientific projects in multidisciplinary areas and in the will also be considered.

  • Work Plan:
  • The work will be developed in the following areas:

  • Analysis of data from the TROPOMI sensor available on the Sentinel-5P satellite
  • The. Selection of global data collected in the event of significant forest fires
  • Identify the specific compounds detected by TROPOMI in these situations
  • Globally detect in which situations arise such specific compounds previously detected and correlate with the existence of forest fires.
  • Generate images with geographic coordinates, representative of the detected compounds.
  • Merge the data obtained from TROPOMI with those from FTIR-OP
  • Realization of scientific dissemination.
  • Applicable legislation and regulations::
  • Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt );
