Title : COMPETITION FOR GRANTING 1 Research Scholarship - PTDC/QUI-OUT/2586/2020 - 3/2022

A tender is open for the attribution of 1 (one) Research Scholarship(s) within the scope of the R&D project entitled Targeting human macrophage galactose C-type lectin towards the development of innovative and alternative cancer therapies, with the reference PTDC/QUI-OUT/2586/2020, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P/MCTES, under the following conditions:

  • Scientific Area: Bioengineering, Biotechnology and Biochemistry or Chemistry and Chemistry Engineering
  • Recipients profile/category:
  • Mandatory requirements: Candidates must cumulatively meet the following requirements: Master's Degree in Biochemistry/Chemistry or related fields; proven experience in protein expression and purification for NMR (with isotope labeling), experience in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance and protein-ligand interactions, from the protein and the ligand viewpoint. Previous experience in the expression and purification of the MGL (Macrophage Galactose C-Type Lectin) will be valued. Candidates must also present, at the time of contracting, proof of enrollment in a cycle of studies that may or may not award an academic degree by a Higher Education Institution.

  • Work Plan: The work plan will be multidisciplinary and aims to achieve the following objective: Elucidate the molecular recognition mechanisms of diverse tumour antigens and glycomimetics by human Macrophage Galactose C-Type Lectin (MGL) by different biophysical techniques with special focus in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).
  • Applicable legislation and regulations::
  • Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt );

  • Workplace: The work will be developed in the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific guidance of Dr. Filipa Marcelo. NOVA.id.FCT - Association for Innovation and Development of FCT will be the contracting entity.
  • Fellowship duration: The scholarship will last for 12 months, starting in July 2022. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewed within the term of the project.
  • Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the grant corresponds to 1,144.64€, based on the table of values ​​of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment made monthly by bank transfer.
  • Selection criteria:
  • The selection methods will be as follows:

    a) Master's Classification – 40% (score from 1 to 20);

    b) Experience in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance and protein-ligand interactions (namely in 1 H,15 N-HSQC, STD-RMN, trNOESY techniques), as well as experience in expression and purification isotopic labeled proteins - 40% (grade from 1 to 20)

    c) Result of the interview in the case of candidates called – 20% (score from 1 to 20);

    Only candidates that obtained a grade equal to or greater than 70% in the sum of criteria a) and b) will be selected for the interview.

  • Composition of the Selection Jury: Doctor Filipa Marcelo (President), Doctor Jorge Dias (Effective Member), Prof. Doctor Eurico J. Cabrita (Effective Member), Doctor Aldino Viegas (Substitute Member) and Doctor Ana Sofia Ferreira (Substitute Member).
  • Form of advertising/notification of results:
  • The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

    After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt .
