Offer Description
Work Plan:
The main objective of this project is to develop and implement a robust framework for computationally efficient model validation, supported by stochastic model updating methods. Patient-specific imagiology exams will be used as raw data, include gated CT angiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with 4D flow. The DICOM database will be used for solid modelling reconstruction needed in computational modelling. Uncertainty evaluation and automated algorithm will be developed to accomplish this task. The robustness of the Fluid– Structure Interaction (FSI) computational tools for the Ascending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (ATAA) will be validated using model updating methods, accounting for uncertainties on input parameters that may include geometry, fluid, and solid mechanical properties. This task will concentrate efforts, at an initial stage, on the statistical survey of the uncertain modelling parameters and on the identification of the most adequate strategy for uncertainty quantification and model validation, regarding computational efficiency. At some point the use of fast-running surrogates, as Gaussian processes, Kriging or neural networks, may be considered. This task will be developed in tight collaboration with the project team members developing the numerical modelling, imaging data collection and ex-vivo measurements. The test and validation of the attained model predictions are assessed upon reference data, providing insight on the accuracy and validity to support clinical decisions. This project should be a contribution on the state-of-the-art in uncertainty quantification and model validation, in the framework of biomedical applications.
Workplace:
The work will be carried out at the Research Development Unit in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI) of the NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa under the scientific supervision of Professors José Manuel Cardoso Xavier and Tiago Alexandre Narciso da Silva, being the contracting entity NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.
Fellowship duration:
The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in July 2024. The scholarship contract may be eventually renewed within the term of the project.
Application deadline and form of application submission:
The contest is open from 15th May to 28th May 2024.
Documentation to be provided when applying:
Applications must be formalised, obligatorily, by sending the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, Qualifications Certificate recognised in Portugal and other relevant supporting documents, namely the declarations defined in the mandatory requirements.
Form of submission of applications: Applications must be sent by email to the address: [email protected]
Documentation to be provided at the time of contracting: Proof of enrollment in courses not conferring an academic degree or in a cycle of doctoral studies.
Applicable legislation and regulations:
Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ).
