COMPETITION FOR GRANTING 1 RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP FOR A MASTER’S STUDENT - PTDC/CCI-BIO/4180/2020

1. Scientific Area: Bioinformatics

2. Recipients profile/category

Mandatory requirements: The candidates must be students enrolled in a Master’s program

in Computer Science, Computational Biology or related fields in a Portuguese Institution of

Higher Education.

Preferred factors: Previous knowledge on Biology and Biochemistry, Machine Learning and

programming languages (e.g., Python, R).

3. Work Plan:

The work will be developed within the scope of the project “MONET– Multi-omic networks in

gliomas”. The project will advance current research on the identification of multi-omic

networks and molecular biomarkers, aiming at improving patient diagnosis, prognosis, and

therapeutic decisions. The work plan focuses on the development of machine learning and

bioinformatic tools encompassing data integration, network analysis, feature selection,

classification and clustering. The work will be developed in collaboration with other participant

institutions, namely, INESC-ID, Instituto de Telecomunicações, and the Life and Health

Sciences Research Institute (ICVS/3B’s).
