Title : COMPETITION FOR GRANTING 1 Research Scholarship - - EXPL/QUI-OUT/0069/2021 - 2.2022

A tender is open for the attribution of 1 (one) Research Scholarship(s) within the scope of the R&D project entitled Interrogating Salmonella/host-glycans crosstalk: Structure-functional approach, with the reference EXPL/QUI-OUT/0069/2021, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P/MCTES, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Bioengineering, Biotechnology and Biochemistry or Chemistry and Chemistry Engineering

Recipients profile/category:

Mandatory requirements: Candidates must cumulatively meet the following requirements:

Degree in Biochemistry/Chemistry or related fields;

Proven experience in protein expression and purification of isotopically labeled proteins for NMR

Experience in NMR molecular recognition studies.

Previous experience in assign resonances and/or calculating protein structure using NMR experience will be valued.

Candidates must also present, at the time of contracting, proof of enrollment in a course that does not lead to an academic degree as part of an educational project of a Higher Education institution.

Work Plan: The candidate of research scholarship shall be performing activities in the scope of the project EXPL/QUI-OUT/0069/2021. The work plan involves:

Optimization of expression and purification of Salmonella proteins for structural studies using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

NMR molecular recognition of host-glycans against the recombinant lectins produced in activity 1.

Applicable legislation and regulations::

Workplace: The work will be developed in the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific guidance of Dr. Helena Coelho and Dr. Filipa Marcelo. NOVA.id.FCT - Association for Innovation and Development of FCT will be the contracting entity.

Fellowship duration: The scholarship will have an initial duration of 6 months, renewable, should not be extended further than the project duration. The contract should begin in October 2022.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the grant corresponds to 875,98€, based on the table of values ​​of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment made monthly by bank transfer.

Selection criteria:

The selection methods will be as follows:

a) Degree Classification – 30% (score from 1 to 20);

b) Experience in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance and protein-ligand interactions (namely experience in the acquisition and analysis of triple resonance experiments for the assignment of protein resonances by NMR) as well, experience in expression and purification of isotopically labeled proteins for NMR studies - 50% (grade from 1 to 20)

c) Result of the interview in the case of candidates called – 20% (score from 1 to 20);

Only candidates that obtained a grade equal to or greater than 60% in the sum of criteria a) and b) will be selected for the interview.

Composition of the Selection Jury: Doctor Helena Coelho (President), Doctor Filipa Marcelo (Effective Member), Doctor Ana Sofia Ferreira (Effective Member), Prof. Doctor Eurico J. Cabrita (Substitute Member) and Doctor Jorge Dias (Substitute Member).

Form of advertising/notification of results:

The evaluation results proposed by the jury will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected] .
