CESPU PhD scholarships - PhD in Toxicology (# of pos: 2)

Duration and Activity Regime. A call is open for the attribution of 2 (two) PhD Scholarship financed by the Cooperative of Polytechnic and University Higher Education (CESPU). The fellowship has an annual duration, starting in November 2022, eventually renewable up to a maximum of 4 years, on an exclusive basis. The activities will be developed at the R&D units of the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS), under the Doctoral Program in Toxicology, according to the CESPU Scholarship Regulation approved by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (see CESPU Scholarship Regulation at Candidaturas Doutoramentos (https://www.cespu.pt/ensino/candidaturas/candidaturas/doutoramento/ ).

Object of Activity and Scientific Orientation. The work to be carried out will be in the area of health sciences. Research projects, as well as supervisors, will be defined by the Coordinating Committee of the Doctoral Program, according to the profile of the selected candidates.

Admission Requirements.

i) The CESPU PhD scholarship is intended for applicant who is accepted in the 1st edition of the IUCS doctoral program in Toxicology, starting in 2022/2023 (see Notice 2022-2023/7th edition at Candidaturas Doutoramentos) (https://www.cespu.pt/ensino/candidaturas/candidaturas/doutoramento/ );

ii) Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree, in the field of health sciences, biology or chemistry with a final average (Bachelor + Master), or final grade of Integrated Master, equal to or greater than 16 (numerical scale from 0 to 20). The required degrees must be formally completed until the end of the application submission period;

iii) Applicant with foreign academic degrees that are not recognized in Portugal, will be admitted to the competition. However, when submitting the application, it is mandatory to present the recognition of the foreign academic qualifications in Portugal, in accordance with the provisions referred to in Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (rules for the recognition of foreign academic degrees and higher education diplomas in Portugal), and in Ministerial Order 33/2019, of January 25th (regulates the procedural requirements for the recognition of foreign academic degrees and higher education diplomas in Portugal). iv) Missing documents required in this call and/or incomplete information determines the ineligibility of the scholarship application.

Evaluation and selection criteria. Applicants will be selected for interview based on:

Curriculum evaluation (50%):

• Academic qualifications (20%)

• Experience in research projects (7,5%)

• Scientific production - publications and presentations in congresses and/or participation in patent

development (12,5%)

• Letter of motivation (5%)

• Letters of reference (5%).

Interview (50):

The top 8 candidates in the curriculum evaluation will be invited for an interview.

The jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship if none of the candidates matches the desired profile, suitable for the research activities being carried out at IUCS.

Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will include members of the Coordinating Committee of the PhD program: Professor Vítor Seabra (Director of Pharmaceutical Sciences Department and Jury President), Professor José Alberto Duarte and Professor Diana Dias da Silva (members of the Scientific Committee of the Doctoral Programme). Other professors from the PhD program and/or researchers from IUCS may be part of the jury. The jury has deliberative capacity with a minimum of two of the elements identified above.

Notification of results. Notification of the results will be made to the electronic address provided by the applicants.

Scholarship. The scholarship includes the following components:

• Research grant of €800.00, as provided for in Annex III of the CESPU Scholarship Regulation, payment to be made monthly by bank transfer;

• Exemption from doctoral fees and school insurance (does not include exemption from payment of

registration/enrolment);

• Voluntary social insurance and personal accident insurance.

In case of failure in a year and/or course units, the respective charges will be paid by the scholarship holder.

Legislation. The scholarships are awarded under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute approved by Law no. 40/2004, in its updated version, and under Studentships and Fellowships of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., in force, and the CESPU Scholarship Regulation.

Application Submission Period. Applications for scholarships are made on the application form for the doctoral program.

The scholarship application documents are common to the application documents for the doctoral program.
