Offer Description

A call for applications is open for a Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the "SustainOlive - Azeite Biológico: Implementação de estratégias inovadoras para a produção, valorização e consumo sustentáveis (Organic olive oil: Implementing innovative strategies for sustainable production, enhancement and consumption)" project, financed by “Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR).

This grant is intended for a student enrolled in a doctoral Degree in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Technology or related field

The grant will have a duration of 12 months with possibility of renewal up to 18 months.

The tender is open in the period between 14/03/2024 and 27/03/2024.

The main tasks are:

- Gathering and organizing primary and secondary data/information through the use of questionnaires,
as well as consulting existing databases, specific literature and experts in the field;
- Construction/Application of Life Cycle Analysis models to different olive oil production systems, with a view to
determining the carbon footprint and other environmental indicators;
- Evaluation of alternative scenarios defined for the olive oil systems studied;
- Preparation of technical reports and other technical-scientific documents;
- Participating in actions to communicate and disseminate the tools and results.

The main goals are:

1) To contribute to increasing the competitiveness, sustainability and innovation of the olive sector, through an Life Cycle Analysis approach, from olive production to the bottle, for different situations: MPBtrad olive groves, PI olive groves and MPBinov olive groves with sensorized extraction units;
2) Determine the "carbon footprint" to be included on the packaging label.

The fellow will benefit from a grant of 1.259,64€ as per the table of remuneration of FCT,I.P.. The fellow will also benefit from personal accident insurance, and if not included in any social security protocol, may adhere to the Portuguese Social Security through the Seguro Social Voluntário (Voluntary Social Security), in the terms present in the Portuguese Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The monthly grant will be paid by banktransfer.

Selection process

Interested candidates should send the application through the platform at http://concursos.ipb.pt , with an up-to-date curriculum vitae, the graduation and certificates and a motivation letter.

Candidates will be assessed by applying the following criteria:
a) academic performance in the master's degree (35%);
b) knowledge/experience in the application of specific carbon footprint and/or Life Cycle Analysis calculation methodologies (e.g. Gabi, Simapro) (35%);
c) other curricular elements relevant to the development of the work plan (30%);
If deemed necessary, there will be an interview with a weighting of 20%, with the remaining 80% to the evaluation of the previous points. The jury may not award the grant if the candidates do not the appropriate profile.

The jury will be composed by Doctor Manuel Feliciano (President of the Jury), Doctor Artur Gonçalves and Doctor Nuno Rodrigues.
The communications and the final results of the evaluation will be disclosed by email notification to the candidates.
If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, thecandidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results,to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of theAdministrative Procedure.


Additional comments

Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academicdegree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by adeclaration of honor by the candidate, although substantiation of this condition is mandatory duringthe grant contracting stage.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution inaccordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January25th. The presentation of the recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
