Offer Description
This grant will be financed by FCT AGA-KHAN through the Project "MYCOTOX-PALOP", with the reference 541590696.
This grant is intended for a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in biological sciences or related areas. The grant will have a duration of 5 months, starting on
26/02//2023, without the possibility of renewal. The tender is open in the period between 19/01/2024 and 01/02/2024.
The main tasks to be developed by the fellow consist of:
1. morphological, metabolic and molecular identification of the fungi isolated;
2. Analysis of mycotoxins in food products and creation of databases.
3. Analysis of food production surveys and creation of databases.
4. Preparation of promotional materials and good practice guides.
The general goals of the work are to analyze the safety of food products from Angola and Mozambique, particularly in terms of contamination with fungi and mycotoxins.

The monthly salary will be payed monthly by bank transfer.

Eligibility criteria

High motivation to develop research on methods for the assessment of biodiversity and carbon credits with with improved biodiversity.
Selection process
The selection methods to be used will be as follows:
a) quality and adjustment of the CV (35%);
b) knowledge of molecular biology (30%);
c) knowledge of food contamination with fungi and mycotoxins (15%);
d) experience in analysis of microorganisms and mycotoxins from food samples (20%).
The jury will be composed by Doctor Paula Rodrigues (President of the Jury), Doctor António Castro Ribeiro and Doctor Vasco Cadavez.
The communications and the final results of the evaluation will be disclosed by email notification to the candidates.
If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure.
Additional comments
Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, although substantiation of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of the recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
