The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) of the University Institute of Lisbon (Iscte -Instituto Universitário de Lisboa) is calling for applications for a PhD Student Research Grant, for research activities in education and inclusion, under the following conditions:

Scientific field: Education

Work programme:

The work plan is based on research activities in the field of education and inclusion, namely:

  • Compiling documentation and contacting relevant institutions and interlocutors;
  • Identifying and communicating with participants for planned activities;
  • Collaboration in writing reports and documents on the results and dissemination activities, namely scientific publications.

Specific Requirements

Admission requirements: 

Applicants must hold a Master's degree in one of the areas of Education and be enrolled in a PhD programme in Sociology (in accordance with Article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Reg. no. 950/2019).

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be registered by a Portuguese institution, in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of 25 January. Preferential factors:

a.   Experience of scientific research in the field of education and inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogies;

b.   Knowledge and experience of using qualitative methodologies;

c.   Proficiency in spoken and written English and Portuguese.

Benefits

Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:

The amount of the grant corresponds to €1,259.64 according to the table of values of grants awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ) .

The amount of the grant is increased by the corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to take it out, as well as personal accident insurance. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

 

Duration of the scholarship:

The scholarship is for a period of 12 months.  The scholarship contract may be renewed within the duration of the research project and in accordance with the stipulations of point 4 of Article 6 of the Research Scholarship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force.


Selection process

Selection methods:

The selection process will be based on curricular assessment. If several candidates demonstrate that they have the right profile to fulfil the work plan, the selection board reserves the right to call the three best-placed candidates in the curricular assessment for an interview which will have a weighting of 20% in the final score.  If the jury deems it unnecessary to hold interviews, the final weighting of the curricular assessment will be 100 %.

The curricular assessment criteria are based on:

a) academic record (40%);

b) the experience demonstrated in the items indicated in the preferential factors (60%).

The curricular assessment of candidates will be carried out in accordance with the criteria indicated and will be carried out on a scale between 0 and 20.

The selection board reserves the right to:

a) invite the highest-scoring candidate to the position in question, following the order established in the final ranking list, whenever the selected candidate does not meet the requirements for formalizing the contract or in the event of unavailability,

b) not awarding the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.

Composition of the Selection Panel:

Candidates will be selected by a jury composed:  Thaís França (CIES-Iscte/Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), who will preside, and the members, Daniel Malet Calvo (CIES-Iscte/Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa) and Cosmin Nada (Universidade do Porto).
