Call is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Fellowship (BI) at UNINOVA - Institute for the Development of New Technologies under the project ROBUST - EXPL/EEI-EEE/0776/2021 - Fontes de Entropia Baseadas em Osciladores para Sistemas IoT Seguros, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), for the development of R&D activities to be carried out by Master’s or Integrated Master’s students or holders of a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Licenciatura) enrolled in a course that is non-degree granting, under the following conditions:
Recipient admission requirements /Profile:
a) Be enrolled in a Master or Integrated Master or be a graduate and master enrolled in a non-academic degree course;
b) Not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, a cumulative period of 2 (two) years if you are enrolled in a Master or Integrated Master and 1 (one) year if you are a graduate and a master enrolled in a non-academic degree for this type of scholarship;
c) Preferential factors:
This project is focused on hardware security, which is nowadays a major concern. It is dedicated to the extraction of entropy, both dynamic and static, from integrated circuits CMOS oscillators, for TRNG and PUF implementations.
Candidates who have obtained the degree abroad must have the degree recognized in Portugal, pursuant to Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16th.
Work plan: The candidate will develop research work performing the following tasks with the following objectives:
- State of the art and gathering information about TRNGs and PUFs.
- Design of Integrated Circuits, in CMOS nanotechnology, for the TRNGs and PUFs, using different oscillators topologies: mostly-passive oscillators, coupled passive oscillators, and inverter-based oscillators with self-bias.
- Comparative study of the implementations used.
- Experimental testing.
- Final Report.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of the Scientific Research Grantee, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012, of August 27 and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October, Law No. 12/2013 of January 29 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28.
It is subsidiarily applicable the Regulation of UNINOVA Research Grants, approved by deliberation of the Board of Directors of the FCT-Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in the meeting of March 2 of 2022.
Duration of the grant: The grant shall last for 10 months, possibly renewable within the duration of the project, provided that it does not exceed the period referred to in point (b) of the admission requirements and is scheduled to start in 1st September of 2022.
