The National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, I.P (INSA, IP)., Environmental Health Department, has an open call for applications for a research scholarship – 1 position – to candidates (M/F) with master degree under the project PARC - Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals, funded by Horizon Europe (agreement nº 101057014).

Skills/Qualifications

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must comply simultaneously with the following requirements:

 

  • Licenciate Degree in the area of Biological or Health Sciences;
  • Master Degree in the same scientific area, with a final grade equal or higher than 17;
  • Be enrolled in a non-degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, a requirement to be duly proven at the time of hiring.

Specific Requirements
  • Advanced training in the field of toxicology or human biomonitoring;
  • Research experience in the field of toxicology, of at least 2 years;
  • Experience in biological samples’ processing;
  • Experience in genotoxicity assays, namely the comet assay;
  • Knowledge in database software for construction and statistical analysis of datasets (e.g. SPSS e Excel);
  • Scientific outputs, namely conference presentations, papers in International peer-reviewed journals, or other publications;
  • Participation in scientific research projects;
  • Scientific awards;
  • Proficiency in English language (written and oral).

Benefits

Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:

The amount of the allowance is 1199,64€, in accordance with the table of values of the national scholarships awarded by FCT, and indicated in the FCT Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships. The fellow will also benefit of the voluntary, as well as the personal accident insurance (or similar).


Eligibility criteria

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must comply simultaneously with the following requirements:

Selection process

Selection methods:

The selection methods will comprise curriculum evaluation and interview. The curriculum evaluation (0-20 points) will assess academic training, professional experience in the above-mentioned areas, scientific activity, and proficiency in English language. The jury may request additional documentary evidence, in case of doubt on training and/or experience. At a second stage, the three applicants with highest score, not lower than 12 points (0-20), will be summoned for an interview that will evaluate knowledge and capacities. The final score will add up the curriculum evaluation (weight of 70%) and interview grade (weight of 30%).


Additional comments

Work Plan: The fellow will be involved in (1) biological samples processing; (genetic damage analysis using the comet assay; (3) data analysis; and (4) results dissemination.

Applicable legislation and regulations:

The Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holder, approved by Law no. 123/2019, of 18 of August applies, without prejudice of the remaining current legislation and internal institutional rules. The DGRH-Bolsas assumes the essential competencies of the Unit, and whose basic operating rules are: the responsibility to provide scholarship holders with all information related to their Statutes, to serve as a link between scholarship holders and the Institution, welcoming and monitoring all processes. DGRH-Bolsas can be contacted on business days, during the public opening hours regulated by this Institution.

Workplace:

The work plan will be developed in the Air and Occupational Health Unit of the Environmental Health Department of the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, IP delegation, in Porto.

Scientific supervision:

The fellow will be supervised by Doctor Carla Trindade Costa, Auxiliary Researcher of the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, IP.

Scholarship duration:

The scholarship will have a duration of 9 months, with the expected starting date on March 15, 2024, possibly renewable under the terms of applicable legislation and regulations.

Selection jury composition:

The Jury is composed by Carla Trindade Costa (President), Joana Madureira and Solange Costa (effective members).

Form of presentation of applications and deadline for applications:

Applications must be formalized with the indication of the reference of the opening and accompanied by the following documents:

(i) Presentation letter in english;

(ii) Detailed Curriculum Vitae in english;

(iii) Copies of the required qualification certificate(s);

(iv) Copy of the English language qualification certificate (if applicable).

Publication/Notification of results:

The final evaluation results will be published in the website http://www.insa.pt , and the selected applicant will be notified by email. After the notification, candidates have a period of 10 working days to contest the decision. The selected candidate must declare, in writing, their acceptance and communicate the effective start date of the scholarship. Unless a reasonable justification is provided, failure to make a declaration within the required period (10 days) is equivalent to renunciation of the scholarship. If the first selected candidate is unable to accept the scholarship, the option will be the second qualified candidate (and so on) according to the list ordered by the Jury, to be included in the Minutes.
