The Institute of Mechanical Engineering – IDMEC is opening a call for

2 Research Studentships Master or Integrated Master students

 

Applications are open for 2, Research Studentships Master or Integrated Master students, within the framework of project/R&D institution LAETA, UIDP/50022/2020, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Aerospace Engineering

Admission Requirements:

- Research Studentships (for Master students):

a) To be enrolled at an integrated master or a master, or declaration of honor in which undertakes to be enrolled until the grant's contract is done.

b) not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interspersed.

c) experience in direct numerical simulations of turbulent flows, prior knowledge of spectral methods and isotropic turbulence, and high-performance computing.

Workplan and the objectives to achieve:

1) bibliographic review of isotropic turbulence and turbulent/turbulent interfaces, 2) performance of direct numerical simulations of turbulent/turbulent interfaces (B1), performance of direct numerical simulations of merging turbulent interfaces (B2), 3) analysis of results, 4 ) writing of a scientific article to be submitted to an international journal.

Workplace: The work will  developed at IDMEC - Institute of Mechanical Engineering, being both the Host and Contracting Entity, and under the scientific supervision of Professor Carlos B. Silva

Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have the duration of 3 months. It’s expected to begin in May 2023, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum of 6 months.

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 930,98, being the payment method by Wire Transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: Curriculum evaluation, with the respective weight of 100%.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will communicated to all applicants by email.

After be notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal, by email.

Application deadline and formalization: The call is open in the period between 4th and 17th May 2023, until 6pm.

 

Research Studentships

It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the following documents: Curriculum Vitae;  academic degree proof, where applicable; proof of enrollment at an academic degree course (Master, Integrated Master); motivation letter; declaration on honour that the applicant does not exceed with this contract an accumulated period of two years in this type of studentship, continuously or with interruptions.
