Summary:
A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Iniciação à Investigação“) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project Route 25 - PRT – Route 25: Agenda for Autonomous, Intelligent, Interoperable and Inclusive Mobility. This project is funded by the European Union / Next Generation EU, through Programa de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR) [Project Route 25 with Nr. C645463824-00000063]. This work is within the scope of work package: "Digital Experience & Adaptive Connectivity for Cooperative Mobility".

Work Objectives:
Support for the development and execution of experiments with wireless vehicular networks.

Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações – Lisboa, under the supervision of Professor Ana Aguiar.
Duration:
3 months, with the possibility of renewal (according to the regulations defined by FCT). Start date: April 16th, 2023 or soon thereafter.
Monthly salary:
601,12€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal.
The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Cover letter explaining the interest in the position and relevant background, detailed Curriculum Vitae with transcripts, Copy of the relevant certificates (Copy of the Degree Certificate(s), if applicable); and proof of enrollment (or proof of acceptance) in a higher education course or declaration of honour confirming that complies with the conditions to enroll in the required/preferable higher education course.
NOTE: The proof of enrollment in a higher education course must be made until the contract is signed.

Admission Requirements:
Research Initiation Grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a professional higher technical course, undergraduate degree, integrated master's degree or master's degree, to undertake initial R&D activities, with a view to beginning their scientific training through integration in R&D projects to be developed in national institutions.
- for students with an undergraduate degree carrying out initial R&D activities who are enrolled in non-degree courses integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

In what concerns the admission requirements for this research initiation grant in particular:
- Candidates must be enrolled in a in a bachelor's, master's degree or integrated master's program or in a non-conferring academic degree course in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering;
- Knowledge in programming; Languages C and C++; Use of basic data structures, e.g., lists, arrays; Inter-thread and inter-process communication, e.g., utilizing shared memory; SQL database fundamentals;
- Good spoken and written English skills;
- Self-motivated and self-disciplined;
- Capable of working independently on a multidisciplinary, international team.
The candidates are eligible if not awarded previously a scholarship funded direct or indirectly by FCT, celebrated according to “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”.

Selection process
Selection criteria:
  • C1 (50%)
    Quality of the candidate's Curriculum Vitae reflected in the course grades in scientific areas related to the workplan, as well as previous experience (e.g. internships, short jobs, projects) and/or the existence of peer-reviewed publications in international conferences, with preference for those of the IEEE and ACM
  • C2 (50%)
    Suitability of the candidates' profile to the project. The availability of the candidate and estimated time to contract signature will be considered in this criterion.

    An interview may be requested if deemed relevant by the selection jury. In this case, the three best applicants with a grade above 14 in the curriculum evaluation (C1) will be invited to individual interviews and will be included in criteria C2.

Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:
F = C1 x 50% + C2 x 50%
In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
The Jury has the right to not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
