1. Tender open for the award of 8 Scholarships for MA students (Bolsa de Investigação). These Scholarships are funded by Portuguese national funds through Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, within the scope of IFILNOVA's UIDP/00183/2020 project, funded by FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC).

2. Work plan:

– The main objective of the NOVA Institute of Philosophy (IFILNOVA) is the development of research programs focused on human action and the construction of values at ethical, aesthetic, political and argumentative levels. In order to fulfill this objective, IFILNOVA develops research programs on the theme of values, especially the normativity of rules and argumentation, aimed at the study, development and investigation of philosophical theories and their application to social practices and problems.

– These programs are developed in four research laboratories, which have different methods and perspectives: ArgLab considers the problem of values from the perspective of argumentation, philosophy of language, epistemology and philosophy of mind; CultureLab considers the problem of values from the perspective of the history of philosophy, philosophy of history, philosophy of culture, philosophical anthropology and aesthetics; EPLab considers the problem of values from the perspective of ethics and political philosophy; CineLab considers the problem of values as part of an investigation into the relationship between philosophy and cinema. https://www.ifilnova.pt/en

– The work plan proposed by each candidate must be part of the programs developed by one of the four laboratories above.

3. Duration of the scholarship:

The duration of the scholarships is of 12 months, with no possibility of renewal. Scheduled to start in January 2023.

4. Form of submission of applications:

Candidates must apply by e-mail, to which they must attach:

­— Curriculum vitae;

— Certificates of academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken, or, alternatively, the candidate's declaration of how he concluded the degree by the end of the term specifying, in this case, the provisional average grade;

— Work plan containing objectives (max 250 words), state of the art (max 500 words), and detailed description (max 750 words);

— Motivation Letter with an express indication of the scientific area of ​​the application;

— One letter of recommendation;

— Declaration by at least one integrated member of IFILNOVA, as supervisor, assuming responsibility for supervising the work plan;

— Proof of enrollment in one of the following Master's courses: Aesthetics and Art Studies / General Philosophy / Political Philosophy;

In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, it is mandatory to present the recognition of the degrees obtained, in accordance with Decree-Law nr. Nr 66/2018, of 16 August; or, in the absence of recognition at the time of application, declaration on honor that this recognition will be made before signing the contract in case you are the selected candidate.

In compliance with the provisions of article 6 of the FCT Research Grants Regulation it is required to be enrolled in the academic year 2022/2023 in one of the following Masters Courses at NOVA FCSH:

— Aesthetics and Art Studies

— Philosophy, in the area of ​​specialization in General Philosophy

— Philosophy, in the area of ​​specialization in Political Philosophy

Preferred requirements: Degree in Philosophy or in areas considered to be related.

Research fields: Aesthetics and Art Studies (4 Scholarships); Philosophy, in the area of ​​specialization in General Philosophy (2 Scholarships); Philosophy, in the area of ​​specialization in Political Philosophy (2 Scholarships).
